margay
The Margay is slim, with long legs and a long
tail. Its coat is light yellowish–brown with striking spots.
Its tail is ringed. The Margay is in the same family as the
leopard. The Margay lives in the rain forest of Brazil in South
America. In the jungle, they exist in the low canopy area,
eating small mammals like the rat, squirrels, opossums and birds.
The Margay is at the top of the food chain. It’s only predators
are the jaguar and man. Deforestation has destroyed the Margay’s
habitat to the point of the Margay’s extinction. Notable features
of the Margay are that they are excellent climbers. The Margay
has flexible ankles that allow it to climb down trees headfirst like a
squirrel. It hunts in trees and can hang from a single branch
by a foot. The Margay resembles the domestic tiger cat.
