The Macaws are long-tailed birds of red, yellow,
and blue feathers. Their length, from head to tail, is 35 inches.
Their upper mandible of their bill is ivory with a black tip. Talons
are gray-brown and the iris is yellowish.
They live in South America and Northwestern
Mexico. They also live in Guyana, Surinam and French Guyana.
On those continents they live in the middle layer of the rainforest.
They eat nuts, palm fruits, and figs when they are breeding. They
also eat insect during breeding season. To digest some nuts they
have to go to the riverbanks and eat the mud minerals to balance the acid
in the nuts.
Some of the unique characteristics of the
Macaw are the large wings, long tails and very bright colors. But
the best thing about them is they can learn to talk. There is a Macaw
that can think and talk like a human. It can tell the difference
between colors and shapes. Now it is learning to sound out letters.
