The boa constrictor can grow to be 25 feet long,
and over 500 pounds. The boa lives in the South American and the Central
American rain forest. The boa constrictor is one of the most primitives
of all the snakes. When the boa feels threatened it will hiss so loud you
can hear it 100 feet away. The boa is an excellent swimmer; it waits for
its prey (as it’s getting a drink of water) at the bank of a river then
the boa will wrap its body around its prey and strangles it. After the
prey is dead the snake swallows it whole. A young boa eats small rodents,
frogs, lizards, birds, and other small animals. An adult boa will eat monkeys,
capybaras, agoutis, and wild pigs. The only predators the boa has
are birds of prey, such as hawks and eagles. These birds will swoop down
and grab the snake with its talons.
