Mitchell Overstreet & Elizabeth Unknown
Lillian Parrish Overstreet wrote in her book Kentuckians of Yore and Kinsmen Galore, "Mitchell Overstreet and Gabriel Overstreet appeared on the 1782-1787 taxpayers list in Virginia and were taxed for almost 700 acres in King and Queen County. Mitchell appeared in Kentucky before 1790 and was shown living near Boonesborough in Madison County. His wife was Elizabeth, as shown by deed made by the couple. Elizabeth died in 1819 and on the 28th March 1820 Mitchell married Nancy Webb of Shelby County, Kentucky.
Mitchell owned land and lived in the area of Oldham County which is now called Buckner but at that time was known as Fayetteville. Over the years he deeded land to his children and when he died in 1843 his will provided only for his burial expenses and ordered the freedom of his slaves. The date of his birth is uncertain, however, the 1840 census of Kentucky gave his age as 90 to 100 years, so he was at least 93 years old at the time of his death."
Lillian wrote her book in 1986 and penciled into my copy that Gabriel was probably the father of Mitchell. Today there are researchers that are almost certain James and Gabriel were brothers. There are efforts being made to trace the line further back, and I am sure one day we will find the right
ancestors. It will be a little difficult because so many of the Virginia counties involved are the ones that are now called "burned out counties." The Civil War and courthouse fires etc. have destroyed a lot of records.Mitchell and Elizabeth Overstreet had seven children and the last child, Mitchell Ramsey Overstreet, had descendants marry descendants of James.
