who i am

curious as to what i might find
out there, i logged on to
one of the major internet search engines
and typed my name:

Jeremiah Chariot.

after several nanoseconds
a list of some hundred
different Jeremiah Chariots
popped up, all living
different lives and experiencing
far greater things than
the Jeremiah Chariot sitting
in his underwear in
front of an old computer screen.

i spent the next few hours
reading the biographies and
achievements of the other
Jeremiah Chariots, living
vicariously through them.

i was a newly-hired CEO for
a large multi-national,
multi-billion-dollar corporation
based in New York City.
i had a six figure salary and
a beautiful trophy wife.  i fired
people at will, spoke eloquently
and powerfully, and commanded
respect wherever i went.

i was the starting pitcher for
King's Crown Junior College
in a playoff game versus
West Lake Junior College,
a back-up safety for
Central Delaware State's football
team and a professional
bowler with 4 career 300 games.

i was a cop, a nurse,
a psychology professor, a cartoonist,
a convicted rapist and a
myriad of college students
at universities across the world.

i broke records and saved
lives.  i fixed television sets and
stereos systems.  i invented
cures for diseases, wrestled
alligators and even performed
open-heart surgery.

but when all was said and done,
and after living the lives
of many other people, i was still
just the Jeremiah Chariot
sitting in his underwear in
front of an old computer screen
wondering if anyone out there would
be interested in being me.
