What is Wicca?
F.A.Q. page.

What is Wicca?
Wicca is a nature based religion centered around the Elements, Stages of life, Seasons of the year and the Sun and Moon. Wiccans worship both a male and female aspect of divinity, a Goddess and God are used to represent this. Practitioners of Wicca are also known as Witches.

Are all Witches Wiccan?
No, there are many people who take upon themselves the title of Witch without taking on the responsibility of upholding Wiccan principles. The religion of Wicca has one basic principle: Do as you will an it harm none. There are still other people who call themselves Witch, practice magick, and follow the principles, that do not consider themselves Wiccan.

So are you "white witches" or "black witches"?
This is not a racial question, but one trying to establish whether a person is a "good witch" or a "bad witch". Well this is not really an appropriate question to ask someone. We are all just human and try to live up to the ideals of our religion. It would be the same as asking someone if they are a good or bad Baptist or Catholic or whatever. If the question is to the ideals of Wicca, yes they are of a goodly nature.

What about black magick?
Again magick is neither black nor white. Magick itself is neutral. It is the use of energy in the universe and in ourselves. I like to use an example I heard from a friend of mine. "Magick is like electricity, it can be used in an incubator to save a newborn baby's life, or it can be used in the electric chair. The electricity itself is not capable of choosing to save or take a life, it is how the person controlling that electricity chooses to use it."

Do Wiccans cast spells?
Yes, Wiccans cast spells that don't harm or limit the freewill of anyone. The use of magick can be done by anyone, and those who perform spells of a negative nature would not be following the principles of Wicca. We believe that those people will receive punishment for their actions in the form of karma or the three fold law, the three fold law is: Any thing you do will come back to you three fold, good or bane. Not all Wiccans cast spells though, the decision to do so is left up to the individual. Please read my spell ethics for more information.

So females are witches and males are warlocks right?
Nope, Many people prefer the term Wiccan to Witch, but if you use the term Witch it would apply to females and males alike. It would actually be insulting to call a male witch a warlock as it is an old Scottish word meaning "traitor" or "oath-breaker"

If you are a witch does that mean you worship Satan?
Definitely not! Satan is a concept that exists in Christian and Muslim religions. We do not recognize the existence of Satan, nor do we worship any demon.

Isn't the pentagram a Satanic symbol?
No. The petagram's five points represent the elements; earth, air, fire, and water. The top point represents spirit. The Satanic church has taken this symbol and inverted it in the same manner they have done with the cross, showing their opposition and disrespect to both Christianity and Wicca.

Do you do sacrifices?
No. The Wiccan rede "do as you will, an it harm none" applies to everything people and animals alike. Witches believe in the sanctity of all life. For this reason a large percentage of Witches are vegetarian.

Isn't Witchcraft a cult?
A cult by definition is a group of people who blindly follow a leader. Wiccans tend to be free thinkers and have no one person we consider to be the leader therefore, no, we cannot be considered a cult.

Do Witches celebrate holidays?
We do celebrate holidays, our own. Wiccan holidays are known as sabbats. Sabbats are held at the quarters and cross quarters of the year in celebration of the seasonal changes. Samhain is held on October 31st. Yule is held on the winter solstice around December 21st. Imbolc is on February 2nd. Ostara is held on the spring equinox about March 21st. Beltane is on May 1st. Midsummer is on the summer solstice around June 21st. Lughnasadh is on August 1st, and Mabon on the Autumn equinox about September 21st. The Christian church adopted many of the traditions of witch holidays in an attempt to convert the pagans. Pagan has come to be a derogatory term, but in fact pagan means country dweller. The Christian church found it easier to convert people who lived in the city than to convert farmers who were more connected to the earth and the seasonal changes. Please read my Sabbats pages for more information on these holidays.
