The author,
D. J. Conway, takes the reader on an adventure through the entire 13-month
Pagan year. At the beginning of each chapter or Moon, Mr. Conway
lists major holidays, current and historic, for cultures worldwide.
There are Pagan receipes to help celebrate Sabats and Gatherings in the
Old Traditions. The best part is the spells which are woven into
the fabric of each of the chapters.
This book has 3 Appendices,
the first being Moon Dieties. Followed by Moon Symbols, and finally
a short Charge of the Goddess that can easily be incorporated into an existing
Pagan group's ritual.
The Magician's Companion by Bill Whitcomb
A MUST for any serious occultist.
If knowledge is power, then this book is very a powerful tool. This
book contains information on Eastern and Western Magickal traditions, practices,
alphabets, and compendiums. There is also a large section
containing dozens of entries of groups, periodicals, and publishers.
This book is well written and is in the form of an encyclopedia, making
it very user-friendly reference material.
The subject matter in the
book is extremely varied. There are assorted definitions of magic,
including identity, consciousness, and mystic axioms. For the beginner,
a suggested program of study, and for the more advanced student, a handy
book use guide.
The different models of belief
systems including Universalism, Nihilism, Dualities, Trinities, Elements,
The Chakras, and Wicca, the Eight-Spoked Wheel of the Year. Other
areas of interest which are covered are: Herbs and Plants, Incenses
and Perfumes, Gems and Minerals, and finally Holy days.
Cunningham's Encyclopedia
of Crystal, Gem, and Metal Magic
by Scott Cunningham
My PERSONAL FAVOURITE of Mr.
Cunningham's works. I am a Master of Stone Magic and gained much
of my knowledge from this wonderful tome. Herbs and incense are nice
in a ritual, but stones are reusable because their power can be renewed
by purifying them in water and recharging them with energy. Given
the proper care, stones can last forever. This book gives the user
the knowledge to select several affordable semi-precious stones that can
satisfy all magickal needs and occasions. Most of the stones
can be found in museum gift shops and from online occult stores.
Each stone is listed alphabetically
and has the Planetary and Elementary rulers along with stone usages and
spells. The stones are indexed by spell and by substitution.
There is also a, somewhat limited, picture gallery. It gives
guidelines for constructing your own stone Tarot set. As a whole,
the book is very easily and quickly referenced and contains a ton of stone
magic knowledge. Mr. Cunningham devoted a nice section to Metal Magick,
which is very difficult to find elsewhere.
If you have only one book
devoted to stone and metal magick, make sure this one is it.
Helping Yourself with White Witchcraft by A. L. Manning
This is the MOST PRACTICAL
book on spellcraft for White Witches ever published. There are instructions
on how to build a witches pyramid, spell casting which includes spells
of protection, purification, invocation of elements, and chants for love,
business and luck. There are also instructions on enhancing the effectiveness
of spells by using herbs, oils, candles, and incense. If these time-honored
topics are not enough, there is a section on how to create a Thoughtform
familiar, how to attract and gain the favor of the "Little People", how
to invoke Nature Spirits, and how to call you very own spirit teacher.
The chapters of this book
include Attracting and Holding a Lover, Attracting Money and Prosperity,
and Maintaining the most important commodity; Health. There is information
on how to protect oneself from psychic attack by using self-crafted amulets
and talismans, as well as information on how to exercise and expel demons.
For the more advanced occult
student, there are chapters on enhancing Wiccan powers by using Sex Magick,
inducing Prohpetic dreams, and Astral Travel. The final chapter of
the book is tables of hours during the day dedicated to specific Gods and
Goddesses. TIP When performing Rituals don't forget
to figure in daylight savings time. (Spring forward, Fall back) Fall
time is true time.
