CANS 4
COMPUTERS

What is Cans4Computers?

Cans4Computers is a Foundation fund-raiser that raises money for technology through recycling. Please bring your cans and plastic liter bottles to the main entrance of the school on the can collection days. If it is raining cans are collected in the lunch shelter area. Collection days are usually the last Tuesday of every month. If you would like to help out with can collections, contact Oscar Pogarian. picture of Monty

What are Monty Bucks?

Monty Bucks are part of the Cans 4 Computers fund-raiser. Students are given Monty Bucks for recycling. Monty Bucks can be used to purchase fun items at the Monty Buck Store, which is opposite the lunch shelter on can collection days. If you have questions, or would like to help with this fun program, Andi Schwander is the parent contact for the Monty Store.

(5/98) Cans-4-Computers Sentinel Article by Bob Fletcher
In the rush of excitement it is sometimes easy to miss the wonder of the moment, and there were plenty of wonderful moments this past year. The first collection of the year, with its mountain of cans and energized atmosphere set the tone for what was to come: 3 for 1 Monty bucks over the winter break. Tazza Coffee House warming us one morn. The scouts from pack 302 flashing blue. Mrs. Buckley and Dr. Willebrands stickering it to us with love. Mrs. Messler suggesting baseball as our spring fling. We got on the bus with the Dodgers, who provided spirit, fun, and great prizes. It was a Crackerjack means of support from Borden, and HOT DOG do we like Ralphs. The bin alwyas wins thanks to La Canada Disposal. Could we do it without the strength and support of all the parent volunteers, those we see each Tuesday, and those who worked behind the scenes at home? I know not!

On a personal note, I have been rewareded with new friendships and a great appreciation of parents who have as their agenda the welfare of not only their children, but mine and yours as well. These are the people who make a difference, folks who have been elbow deep in yuck, up late at night or early in the morning on the computer, or stopping in the middle of the street to pick up an errant can yearning to become part of a PC. My sincere thanks to them and for the tolerance of their spouses. The greatest reward has been the children. They are the heart of all this. For many it's about character, and what feels right and good. It's seeing Aaron waiting at the flag pole at 7:30 am each collection day. The 4th grade girl who canvassed by block because "that's what you do." The kids who come up just to say hello, see ya Tuesday. Being of swervice for no other reason but that it's fun. Those are the moments that make it workt it. There are great kids, let's take care of them. My last thanks go to my best help and son James, and to my wife for her love and support.

Thank you for letting me be of service.
