Reach for tomorrow ... today

October PTA Meeting

(9/26/96) The next PTA meeting will be Tuesday, October 1 starting at 6:30 PM in the Cafetorium. This meeting will feature Deputy Dave Willard of the Sheriff's Department. Deputy Willard will discuss an issue that is very important to all of us -- safety of our children. Prior to the meeting at 6:15 PM you will have the opportunity to view the adolescent films for boys and girls. Frances Mignano, R.N., will be available to answer questions you might have. The adolescent films are for children in the grades 4, 5 and 6.

Presidents' Message

(9/96) Welcome Back!! We hope your summer was exciting and restful. We can hardly believe summer is over, but we are ready to dig in and make this school year a memorable one.

This school year is shaping up to be very busy and very exciting. One of the first major family events we have planned is our School Picnic which this year will be a Special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new playground. All Monte Vista families and friends are invited to join us on Friday, Sept. 27, 1996 at 5 p.m. Look for the special flyer with all the details for this festive event.

Mark your calendar for Sept. 19, 1996 for Back-to-School night. This is your chance to meet with your child's teacher and find out about the school year. Remember this is a Minimum Day.

With the holidays around the corner we encourage you to support the 6th grade gift wrap sale. This pays for their trip to Camp Highland and their fun day in June.

Our next PTA meeting will be Oct. 1, 1996 at 6:30 p.m. Our speaker will discuss safety and community issues affecting our children (i.e., drugs, gangs, etc.)

We hope we had a chance to meet most of you at Howdy Coffee, however we will try to meet all of you throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call us or leave us a note in the PTA box in the school office.

Carole McCauley and Frances Mignano

The festivities start at 9 AM. A short PTA business meeting is held before the installation occurs. If you would like to bring a food dish, contact Susan Schramm or Michele Salo.

A LOOK BACK

(6/96) As we get ready to hand over the reins to the incoming PTA Board, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the accomplishments. As you read in the Principal's Message, the school has experienced some tremendous changes, most of them positive. PTA contributed to these changes with some annual events and some wonderful new things.

These were the things that we could remember. You may think of some additional things.

PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE

(June, 1996) We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Monte Vista families for allowing us the privilege of serving as your Co-Presidents for the past two years.

It has been, at times, very demanding, but also extremely satisfying, and we both deeply appreciate the honor it has been. We feel that we have accomplished a lot during our time. Not least, the wonderful new playground equipment which should be in place by September (knock on wood!). In addition, the wonderful friendships we have shared, and the real joy of doing something positive for our children and the Monte Vista Community has been very important. We know that we leave the PTA in very good hands, and we look forward to continuing on as its Parliamentarians.

Thank you for your wonderful support, both financially and spiritually. It couldn't have been done without you.

We would like to encourage any of you who have hesitated to step up to the volunteer plate. Become involved in any way that you can. The benefits to yourself and your children are enormous.

Have a very happy and healthy summer; we plan to do just that! Take care. With love and affection always.
Phyllis Freeman and Mary Jane Snyder

(May, 1996) I can start off with some great news. We did it. A couple of weeks ago we went with Dr. Willebrands to the School Board to hand over a check for $31,000. Our new playground will be installed by September 1996. Thank you so much for your incredible support of this marvelous project and we achieved this without cutting back on any of our PTA programs or having to use any of our much needed Site Council funds. So once again, thank you.

We would like to thank the Glendale Community Foundation, who gave us a grant of $3,500, and to Dr. Willebrands for all of her great help in writing up the proposal. It is unusual for the Foundation to give money to schools for projects such as ours, so it is a great credit to all concerned that our application was successful. In addition, a hearty thanks must also be extended to our own Foundation, who approved grants for $11,000, and to our Student Council who donated $1,000. Finally, the Monte Vista community must be thanked for their support. Hopefully our children will have many years of fun in our new playground.

Our next PTA meeting will be on Tuesday, May 7. There will be a regular business meeting at 6:30 pm. Then at 7:00 pm, there will be a special school event. The Monte Vista community is cordially invited to attend a "Baby Shower" to welcome Katie Willebrands to her new home in the United States, and her extended family at Monte Vista. We'll have cake and punch in the cafetorium to wish Dr. Willebrands well as she begins her journey towards motherhood and China.

What an exciting month this has been for us all. Only one more letter from us, then we'll be handing over the reins to Frances and Carole.

WE PAWS TO THANK.....

Mr. Craig Thompson and friends for sharing with the PTA his fascinating stories on their travels in India.

Phyllis Freeman and Mary Jane Snyder and their families for a job well done.
