Primitive Man Rock Project

Objective: To demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the of the art of Primitive man by creating a rock which reflects the important aspects of one’s life.

Your Project: Using symbols and signs, you will create an art project which shows various aspects of your life.

The project must contain the following:

1. 5 symbols of your life.
2. A slogan, motto or short saying which reflects your philosophy,
written in a language you create.
3. Your name, date, period and motto translation on the back.
4. A 1/2 to 1 page description of your projects explaining your
signs/symbols and your motto.

Procedure

1. Create five symbols of ideas, events, or objects which represent your life.
2. Determine a slogan, short saying or motto which reflects your philosophy.
3. Create signs and/or symbols to represent the letters of your motto.
4. Create a rough draft placing and arranging your symbols and the signs/symbols
your motto on a blank page.
5. When you are satisfied with your symbol placement, copy your project to
the final paper.
6. Cut your final paper around the edges to simulate a “rock” appearance.
7. Place your name, date, period, and motto translation on the back.
8. Write the 1/2 to 1 page description of your signs/symbols typed or in black
or blue ink and staple it to the back of the rock.

Your final project should be neat, free of errors and pleasing to the eye. The writing description should be in black or blue ink. Do not use pencil on either the rock or the description.
