NOVELL MANAGEWISE 2.1
EVOLVING MANAGEMENT FOR EVOLVING SYSTEMS

In its beginnings, American government was able to
effectively manage a small homogeneous nation of
British descent. But this situation changed
radically as non-English immigrants flooded the
United States, turning the nation into a diverse
"melting pot" of constituents. Management effective
with a small similar group of citizens suddenly found
it necessary to evolve, to accommodate a rapidly
growing population of varied race and culture.

Just as government developed new methods to manage
a diverse and expanding country, it must now develop
new methods to manage its networks. Before the onslaught
of intranets and the Internet, systems were considered
individual entities, built for a limited number of
users and with very particular needs. Varied criteria
spawned varied networks. But now, with agencies and
departments across the nation consolidating and networking
their disparate systems, running numerous management tools
is confusing and inefficient. To maximize the benefits
of a single connected network, a single management tool
is needed -- one that can centrally supervise a whole
network in the present, as well as an evolved network
  in the future.

Novell ManageWise is today's only comprehensive and
integrated management solution that lets you successfully
manage and optimize your heterogeneous network. It reduces
the cost of owning and managing a network and enhances
business operations by increasing network reliability
  and user productivity.

Using one management tool instead of many significantly
reduces the cost and time needed to purchase software
and train staff. In addition, there's no sense in joining
networks if they aren't going to be treated as a single
unit. A centralized management tool such as ManageWise
also allows administrators to see the "big picture"
of their entire network, rather than continuing to
  treat smaller systems separately.

ManageWise implements security via standard NDS
methodology. It authorizes select personnel to view
levels of security alarms appropriate to their location
and position. It also monitors networks for viruses,
notifying you upon detection and quarantining the
virus until it can be eliminated.

Need to tinker with a desktop? ManageWise allows remote
  control of Windows 95, Windows 3.1 & 3.11, OS/2 Warp,
and DOS desktops for such functions as configuration
change management, user administration, and desktop access.

ManageWise builds on NetWare expertise to provide
  comprehensive server management. It automatically
detects thousands of problems on both NetWare and NT
servers and monitors over 400 events, notifying you
when tolerance levels have been exceeded. To implement
proactive management, conditions can signal potential
rather than actual problems, enabling you to correct
situations before your system slows down or goes down.

  ManageWise continuously monitors network activity
and trend performance, so that you can plan wisely
for future network modification or growth. You
can observe network traffic trends on Ethernet
and token-ring networks, to optimize network
  traffic paths.

ManageWise can track the hardware and software installed
on each workstation, providing the data that the
Netware Application Launcher (NAL) needs in order to
install network applications and standardize desktop
  software configurations. It also automatically
inventories networking devices such as NetWare servers,
  hubs, routers and desktops.

ManageWise clients include Novell DOS 7, MS-DOS 3.3
or later, Mac OS System 7, Windows 3.1, Windows 95,
  Windows for Workgroups 3.11, and OS/2 Warp & 2.x.
It is supported on servers such as Server requirements:
  NetWare 3.11, 3.12, & 4.1, NetWare SFT III, NetWare
  SMP, and NetWare/IP.

An add-on product -- ManageWise Agent for Windows NT Server
-- integrates with ManageWise so that you can manage
your mixed NetWare and NT server environments from
  the same interface.

The tools that worked yesterday with disconnected
systems won't necessarily work today in the arena
of global networking. An evolving system demands
an evolving systems management tool. ManageWise
enables government agencies to take advantage of
consolidated systems rather than treating them like
the separate, limited networks of yesterday.
