considered speech worthy of tolerance, should
not tearing down secular icons and traditions be
equally worthy of our tolerance and applause?
Should we not applaud the smashing of lewd movie
theaters and grotesque paintings as free speech?
When a movie theater crumbles, it is a sight to
behold. The process of shredding a nudie
painting is definitely artistic and
iconoclastic. It may not have universal appeal
but nobody can deny that it has no artistic
appeal to some people - and should not that be a
good enough reason to offer it our universal
acceptance?
If no consideration should inhibit speech, than
should we not abolish all laws and regulations
that prohibit and inhibit all sort of actions
and behaviors? After all, what is the difference
between speech, art, actions and behavior? Are
they not sought to synonymous when they apply to
artists and entertainers? Or is it that these
elite want masses to be exempted from free
speech or subjected to a narrow definition of
speech that excludes actions and behavior but
they what the whole enchilada when it comes to
artists and entertainers?
Why should people tolerate artists and
entertainers who show hatred of everything that
people hold dear and sacred? Don't artists and
entertainers have the moral duty to please,
entertain, amuse and enlighten people without
offending none? That the moral foundation of
artistic freedom stems from such a noble role
being played by the artists and entertainers.
When artists and entertainers consider it their
moral duty to displease, disgust, anger,
despise, evoke hatred, politicize etc., don't
they lose the moral foundation of their elitism
and freedom. If artists and entertainer want to
play politics, let them do it in the political
arena where players are usually examined
extremely critically and held accountable to
people. Why are they hiding from political arena
and hiding behind unaccountability created by
free-speech walls of art and entertainment? Why
are they cashing in their name and fame earned
in unrelated field for issues and causes that
are strictly political or religious? Why can't
they prove and earn their mental in the arena of
ideas and services to the nation or religion and
than cash that goodwill for the political ends
or religious ends as the case may be?
Is there any wonder why art and entertainment
has become the last refuge of hate-mongers,
dysfunctionals and drop-outs, perverts, sick and
demented socio-paths, political opportunists,
bankrupt ideologues and immoral reformers? There
are times to venerate art and entertainment
field. These are times to cleanse it.

Lalita Oraon Paris maid scandal broke in last September when a terrified little girl escaped her slave master's quarters and found by French police in a very pitiful condition. Correspondents from London flew to Paris to make on the spot assessment of the sticky situation, as if they could not do so sitting back home.
Lalita's case as child abuse case, sexual abuse case, child slavery case may or may not prove accurate as per French version of events and expert medical investigations as government of India is still protecting the slave master more than the slave, Lalita.
The current love duet being played by the French and Indian government at the highest levels requires that such ugly matters be swept under the rug for the good trade and commerce relations of mutual benefit. However, poor illiterate mother of Lalita is seized with strange requests, sort of pressure from the well wishers and government officials to declare Lalita as an adult, 19 years old and also claim her as a child though no record of any kind was found.
In such cases an affidavit is recorded in front of witnesses to certify the legitimacy of parentage if not the actual age of Lalita. Lalita claimed that she was an orphan and that her mother abandoned her. She may be telling the truth or she may be lying as good or as bad as government of India and her so called mother.
The fact remains that a government servant working in Paris picked up this poor little girl and took her to Paris not to ameliorate her condition but to exploit her inherent weaknesses knowing fully well that Lalita could never betray her slave master as she is illiterate and speaks only her regional language.
I wish Lalita a safe passage to India or if she decides to remain in Paris and seek asylum for valid reasons, no matter whether she was sexually molested or not. Lalita was surely exploited as a slave as her age and qualifications could not have got her a job other than a maid or daily wage earning female domestic servant in India.

More opposition may ensue if the problems facing the industry are not solved at the top level.

Why bother finding out the truth that women, till British introduced equal education facilities for desi men and women, women were purposely kept in balls and chains, hidden behind harems and walled inner court yards of wealthy mansions.
Women had stringent rules to be observed in the family of their own paying obeisance to just about everyone in the in-law houses, including the children, younger brothers and sisters of their husbands. The early marriage of girls, as early as in the bassinet, sometimes before birth meant just as soon as they were ready to have babies, they in fact had them in quick succession. This meant that their mother-in-laws would get pregnant as the young brides had their first few pregnancies.
To think that only Muslim communities observed 'burqua' a shroud that covers woman's body from head to toe in public is denying the fact that Hindu women had similar restrictions except they were allowed to keep their faces uncovered.
In certain communities a woman is not supposed to show her face to certain older males in her own family. She must obscure her face with her sari, "Ghungat." Speaking with strangers is still not permitted in rural areas. A normal conversation between an unrelated man and a woman means the woman hides herself behind a screen, door leaf in hearing distance and carries the conversation.
I agree that such archaic methods are not practiced in the metropolitan cities as it is futile and unproductive. Women are acquiring higher and better qualifications, competing with the men. They take responsibilities formerly a private patch of the male chauvinists. Does that mean the ninety percent rural women enjoy the same benefits as their city slicker sisters. Hardly. The old ways carry lot of weight and things move very slowly.
The lower class women, indeed, never had such false modesty requirements as they had to do menial jobs with the wealthy families. The farm labor also consists of family women and they care less for such formalities.
Widows of all castes except of Shudras and Tribal carry the additional economic burden as they lose their position which is in tandem of their men and become slaves. Their movements are severely curtailed and so is their dress codes. They must wear the most drab and uninteresting clothing and be always shunning from the average woman's pleasures including normal diet. Fasting is recommended for the widows not for the religious reasons but to keep them from being normal human beings who are entitled to the usual life enjoyment.
Widows must not sing, dance, enjoy a joke or dare to talk about sexual feelings of their own or of the others. The hardest and the labor intensive tasks are always given to them and they are supposed to do all those jobs as penance. Shaving widows head assured that they would look ugly even to a blind person and would never fell prey to someone's sexual adventures. Invariably, men took advantage of these innocent child widows and thousands got pregnant and had to invite further harassment from the society. Such orphans were everywhere. The known fathers would not care for them, nor the family members as they were considered as the product of evil union.
A kept woman's illegitimate children had better inheritance rights than the children of the fallen widows. The term 'fallen' is not my idea to describe these widows. "Fallen, felled" by the men's lust could describe their condition. Men not only lusted after other married or unmarried women, they used this free source of sexual pleasures all the time.
