GOLDEN WORDS

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Matthew 6:32 (KJV)

"For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

Matthew 6:32 (NASB)

For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

Matthew 6:32 (NIV)

There is a beautiful story about the visitor at a school for the deaf and dumb. He wrote questions on the blackboard for the children, and one was: "Why has God made me to hear and speak, and made you deaf and dumb?"

The little ones were stunned by that terrible "Why?" Finally one little girl rose and, with tears streaming down her face, wrote on the board with firm lines, "Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight!"

Even so, Father! O, that we might have the faith of the little ones.

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of selfdiscipline" 2 Timothy 1:7.

God quickens us with:

1) Power: equal proportions of poise and passion to make life stimulating. God gives an ample measure of courage to meet life's challenges, too. "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded" Hebrews 10:35. It isn't so much selfconfidence as it is Godconfidence. The conditions are persistence and consistence. We apply and God supplies.

2) Love: the stamp of a Christian life that certifies us as His epistles and apostles. Jesus in love came to save sinners, not to condemn and punish us, and this gives us great hope. "All men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another" John 13:35. Dryden said: "Love is a passion which kindles honor into noble acts." "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment" 1 John 4:18. Fear is replaced with a steadfast love that becomes our motivation for everything we do in life. We would also do well to remember that a healthy selflove is taught by our Teacher: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Our Friend died for us, too.

3) Selfdiscipline: that gift from the Holy Spirit that enables us to be reasonable and willing, and which disables us from sin and its leaches that sap our spirit and senses. "It is better to be slowtempered than famous; it is better to have selfcontrol than to control an army" Proverbs 16:32 TLB. Selfcontrol implies selfdenial and selfexamination. When we have these, we can then have selfrespect, as well.

All these together form a triad of moral and physical strength, a triage of God's immense and immediate love for us, and a triangle of the Trinity that surrounds and fortifies us. In 2 Timothy 1:7 we are given sanctified provisions and preservatives that we may prevail.

Excerpts from today's Spurgeon's Devotions

Spurgeon's Morning for February 7

Spurgeon's Evening February 7

"Arise, and depart."

- Micah 2:10

"And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither."

-  Revelation 11:12

Arise, and take thy last journey." And what know we of the journey? And what know we of the country to which we are bound? A little we have read thereof, and somewhat has been revealed to us by the Spirit; but how little do we know of the realms of the future!

"Come up hither." This should be to the saints the subject of joyful anticipation. Instead of dreading the time when we shall leave this world to go unto the Father, we should be panting for the hour of our emancipation.

He Died Alone

Rudy died while hunting mountain goats - an avalanche caused his death - on a mountain of perpetual snows.

The hunter, who was an experienced outdoorsman and an employee of the Canadian National Railway in British Columbia, set out to climb Dome Mountain. "In two days' time I shall return," he said. But he never came back. alone on the mountain he died.

When Ruby's body was found by a six-man search party at the 4,000 foot level, all that could be seen of it was one black boot protruding through the snow. He died from head injuries, broken legs, and a gashed hip.

Many men are like Rudy. They go on train journeys, airplanes, hunting and fishing trips but never come back. They intend to, but never do. Loved ones wait through an anxious time, but no voice or foot steps sounds a joyous return.

Life is uncertain. Because it is, we should be prepared for any eventuality. One tragic thing or another can happen. God's Word declares, " Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:13,14"

"Go to now (don't be so sure), you who say that I shall go on a fishing or hunting trip and return. What is you life?" As the morning fog burns off during the day. Your life is quickly gone.

Because it is so, you should above all else, be prepared for eternity. You can be. You understand, there was another man. He too, died on a mountain alone. Although He was crucified between two thieves, He was forsaken by all. His head was pierced by thorns, His hands were torn by nails, His side was rent by a spear. But His death was not accidental nor tragic. He willingly died to give you eternal life. Previous to His death He said, "In three days' time, I shall return." He did He rose triumphant from the grave. Now you can be sure of salvation by accepting him as your Lord and Savior.

If you refuse to heed this salvation appeal, illustrated by the death of Rudy, this true story will fail to serve its purpose. He could have died in vain. He shot no mountain goat. His death apparently accomplished nothing.

On the other hand, if you refuse to heed this salvation appeal, the Lord Jesus Christ will not have died in vain. Multitudes have already believed in Him. You will be the loser. Your soul will be plunged into eternity by an avalanche of unbelief. You will have nobody to blame but yourself. " How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 2:3"

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Accept Him as your Savior. Do it now! He died ALONE for you.

Today's  Devotion

But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Job 16:5 (NIV)

The Powerless

by Cathy Vinson

This describes one of the most often repeated scenarios. The combining of these unequal forces seems to produce a dynamic that beckons God into the picture. God seems to be drawn to this unequal balance, so much so that He will bring His own people into a place of powerlessness just to fit the bill for His involvement.

Without number are God's areas of expertise. When we speak of the One in the universe over that has undertaken the cause of the powerless, there is only
one, and He stands alone. There is no #2 filed behind Him in line: no social worker, no politician vying for government programs, no Hollywood activist. King Asa cried out, "Lord, there is NO ONE LIKE YOU to help the powerless against the mighty."

"to HELP the powerless..." Go to where the help is. No one is so in tune and in touch with the suffering of the weak one stacked up against the one with MORE might, stature, position, authority, age, resources, influence. Though the most mighty Himself, no one understands the feelings and perspective of the powerless who time and time again is positioned AGAINST the one with more. He knows within the weak one on his way to face the
mightier there is great pangs of inadequacy and turbulence.

Where, where is the Helper? Go to where help is found. No where is it found like in the One who "helps."

Don't you adore Him as the One who helps the powerless? If you are powerless, perhaps there is much of God's initiative that has brought you to this very place. It's at this place that You might be linked with Him. It's at this place where He might truly HELP you.

"the powerless against the mighty"

(2 Chr 14:11)

... Without number are God's areas of expertise. When we speak of the One in the universe over that has undertaken the cause of the powerless, there is only one, and He stands alone.
