August 23
Grand liberty is accorded the praying man, if only the heart is in rapport with God.
People pray kneeling: 1 Kings 8:54, Ezra 9:5, Daniel 6:10, Acts 20:36; standing: Jeremiah
18:20; sitting: 2 Samuel 7:18; lying prostrate: Matthew 26:39; silently: 1 Samuel 1:13;
aloud: Ezekiel 11:13; alone: Mark 1:35, Matthew 6:6; together: Psalm 35:18, Matthew 18:19,
Acts 4:31; at fixed times: Psalm 55:17, Daniel 6:10; everywhere: 1 Timothy 2:8; in bed:
Psalm 63:6; at any time: Luke 18:1; spontaneously: Matthew 6:7; and for everything:
Philippians 4:6, Genesis 24:1214, 1 Timothy 2:14.
God hungers for our fellowship, not our posture.

"The voice of weeping shall be no more heard." Isaiah 65:19 1 |
"That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith." Ephesians 3:17 |
The glorified weep no more, for all outward a causes of grief are gone. There are no broken friendships, nor blighted prospects in heaven. Poverty, famine, peril, persecution, and slander, are unknown there. |
You cannot get a subject closer to you than to have it in the heart itself. "That he may dwell"; not that he may call upon you sometimes, as a casual visitor enters into a house and tarries for a night, but that he may dwell; that Jesus may become the Lord and Tenant of your inmost being, never more to go out. |

But my mouth would encourage you;
comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

What it Means to Follow by Cathy Vinson

We may know this man as the Gadarene demoniac. In this verse we find him cleansed with a new beginning. Here is a man with a past of great disgust, yet, his story is a clear expression of the mercy of God. The people of his region actually felt more comfortable in the days when they were trying to chain him down, more comfortable talking about "that crazy man over there." Now he stands as a revelation of God's power, shining a light of possibility into their own hearts. They do not want to face him, and even less the One who changed him. They are afraid. They want Jesus to leave their region. This man is now the only one in his region who does NOT wish to be rid of the Righteous One called Jesus. This Jesus cleansed him. This Jesus is the only One who has ever had an answer for him. But what is this...Jesus so quickly wants to leave him! Why, he has only just begun? Can you picture the scene? This mere babe "begs" Jesus that he might stay by His side and journey with Him. Scripture says, "Jesus will not let him." (Mk 5:19) What could our own response be at this vulnerable juncture of our lives? He must turn from Jesus' side to face an apparently unyielding people who do not want to face the challenge of an existing God of power. We can be deeply touched by this precious man, once demon-possessed, and now it appears being abandoned by His Savior. Obediently he turns away, and, in doing so actually begins to truly "follow" His Lord. Cathy Vinson©
