Golden Words

We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. And patience produces character, and character produces hope

Romans 5: 3-4 (New Century Version)

Troubles are often the tools by which God fashions us for better things.

"...I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf" (Exodus 32:24). How preposterous! And yet we can give some strange excuses ourselves. "You know the people...that they are prone to evil" (v.22). Aaron said nothing about the mold he made or the graving tool he used.

We all sinand we blame nature or them. "They" make us do it. Society makes us murderers and adulterers because it makes such stringent laws, so we reason. Moses literally broke the commandments in indignation at the sin he witnessed. We break God's commandments in indignation that our socalled freedom is curtailed and then we fault others when life goes askew.

Spurgeon's Evening for September 6

"In the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world."

- Philippians 2:15

"If ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law."

- Galatians 5:18

We use lights to make manifest. A Christian man should so shine in his life, that a person could not live with him a week without knowing the gospel.

We who looks at his own character and position from a legal point of view, will not only despair when he comes to the end of his reckoning, but if he be a wise man he will despair at the beginning; for if we are to be judged on the footing of the law, there shall no flesh living be justified.

Heart of True Ministry

by Cathy Vinson

"One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up."

(Luke 18:1)

C
hildren can so easily and unintentionally portray persistence to us. A toddler at bedtime does eveything possible to delay the inevitable. This may include playing furiously with a toy earlier ignored, jabbering, protesting, and wanting more kisses and water as he or she is finally tucked in. What feverishness!

If we'd only work as hard in our prayer life! In Luke 11:5-10 we read the story of a man whose friend needed to borrow something. He happened to need it at midnight. The friend tries to dissuade him, and would have in spite of their friendship. It is because of his PERSISTENCE, however, that he finally yields.

Jesus is teaching us here and in Luke 18:1 that we must be more lionhearted in our praying. We give up far too easily.

A rabbi Shem Tov spoke playfully of God living in a great palace protected by high walls and guards which keep God "safe" from those who might lay bold claim to His graciousness. The guards protect God from His own unlimited compassion; otherwise, He would give away the Kingdom to those who boldly and persistently come.

However, the guards freely admit those casual petitioners who bring only matters of shallow importance. They know the King will pay them no mind. But they watch carefully for those who come in the agony of prayer or the joyfulness of play, because the King is perfectly helpless before them. Those who come with a bold and loving eagerness are the ones who gain access to God's deepest heart (Heb 4:16).

Bible Fact

WORK

WORK — It is defined as: physical or mental activity directed toward the accomplishment of a task; the labor by which people earn their livelihoods.

Man as created was intended to work. One of his primary tasks in the Garden of Eden was to “till the ground” (Gen. 2:5). Although work was ordained by God as a blessing, it became a curse as a result of the Fall (Gen. 3:17–19). Man would now have to work for his food, and much of his produce would be frustration.

~ Honesty Without Integrity ~

Many years ago, a wise old king called his wise men together and gave them a commission. "I want you to compile for me the wisdom of the ages. Put it in book form so we might leave it to posterity."

The wise men left the king and worked for a long period of time. They finally returned with twelve volumes and proudly proclaimed that this truly was "the wisdom of the ages."

The king looked at the twelve volumes and said, "Gentlemen, I'm certain this is the wisdom of the ages and that it contains the knowledge we should leave to mankind. However, it is too long and I fear that people will not read it. Condense it!"

Again the wise men worked long and hard before they returned with only one volume. The king, However, knew that it was still too lengthy so he commanded them to further condense their work. The wise men reduced the volume to a chapter, then to a page, then to a paragraph, and finally to a sentence. When they wise old king saw the sentence he was absolutely elated.

"Gentlemen," he said, "This is truly the wisdom of the ages, and as soon as all men everywhere learn this truth, then most of our problems will be solved." The sentence simply said, "There ain't no free lunch."
