Golden Words

Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Psalm 34:19

Afflictions sent by providence melt the constancy of the noble minded, but confirm the obduracy of the vile, as the same furnace that liquefies the gold, hardens the clay.

October 25

"For they refreshed my spirit and yours also" (1 Corinthians 16:18). We all crave human companionship and sympathy. Here Paul recognizes—and asks that the church fellowship recognize—his friends who visited and encouraged him, and restored his faith in the church members, as well.

We need to be with our like-minded Christian friends who are truly interested in our welfare and who understand the battles of mind and heart. Perhaps there is another message here: our faithful ministers need encouragement and the support of the church members, as well. They are human, too, and they need to know that their love and work is not in vain.

Spurgeon's Morning for October 25

Spurgeon's Evening for October 25

"For the truths sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever."

- 2 John 2

"She gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech."

- Ruth 2:3

Some truths we outgrow and leave behind, for they are but rudiments and lessons for beginners, but we cannot thus deal with Divine truth, for though it is sweet food for babes, it is in the highest sense strong meat for men.

O for the footsteps of his flock, which may conduct us to the green pastures where he dwells! This is a weary world when Jesus is away-we could better do without sun and moon that without him-but how divinely fair all things become in the glory of his presence!

But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Job 16:5 (NIV)

Because of Him

by Cathy Vinson

" ...and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him."

Revelation 1:72

At this time in our future we will meet His power and Authority in totality. We will feel the impact of Lordship in fullness. "Every knee will bow."

But mourning is in this picture. As when a time of grieving is set aside for someone's death, it appears there will be a time set aside on that cataclysmic day for mourning. We will finally see and understand...

"Because of Him." We will see the most pure of loves, the most perfect of loves. It will all be clear. Uncoerced, unforced through all time, He simply loved us. He gave to us out of pain in His own love.

Why the mourning? Because of Him. We will see all the blemishes piled onto this free, sincere gift and this kind Lord. It seems before anyone receives the wrath for denying, they will sorrow, and sorrow greatly! They will face their absolute personal Loss of life, stunned by their ability to make such a Bad Choice to such love.

"All the peoples of the earth will mourn..." This appears to be the experience of ALL, even the believer. If not all taste of wrath, all will
taste of this mourning. We will universally mourn for our ill treatment of the Son of God most fair and pure.

Might we now appreciate Him? Can we at least render service in accepting that He loves us? Can we at least open up our tender affections toward Him...because of Him?

~ Heaven's Time ~

A contributor to the Reader's Digest tells this one:

"One evening in Albany, New York, I asked a sailor what time it was. He pulled out a huge watch and replied, "It's 7:20." I knew it was later. "Your watch has stopped, hasn't it?" I asked. "No," he said, "I'm still on Mountain Standard Time. I'm from southern Utah. When I joined the navy, Pa gave me this watch. He said it'd help me remember home. When my watch says 5 a. m., I know Dad's rollin' out to milk the cows. And any night when it says 7:30 I know the whole family's around a well-spread table, and Dad's thankin' God for what's on it and askin' Him to watch over me, I can almost smell the hot biscuits and bacon. It's thinkin' about those things that makes me want to fight when the goin' gets tough," he concluded, "I can find out what time it is where I am easy enough. What I want to know is what time is it in Utah." —Reader's Digest

What time it is by Heaven's clock is what matters, not what time it is in this world. —Duane Maxey

And so we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love.
