Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord and praise his name; every day tell how he saves us. Tell the nations of his glory; tell all peoples the miracles he does, because the Lord is great; he should be praised at all times.
Psalm 96:1-4
Sing, sing, sing. This is a call to all the earth and all its people to praise the Lord. Let everyone know about God and all he has done for us. When we begin to realize how wonderful God is, we can't hold back. We've got to sing. We have to praise Him. This is true worship.
He who neglects worship neglects that which separates manfrom the birds, the animals, the insects, the fishes.

"Why does He eat with tax-collectors and `sinners'?" (Mark 2:16c). Jesus
endured the hostility and insensitiveness of sinners (Hebrews 12:3). Jesus said, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her" (John 8:7); "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no
attention to the plank in your own eye?" (Luke 6:41).
When we concentrate on getting the planks out of our own eyes and heart, it's amazing how we no longer see others' specks. We don't have a
gentle enough heart to remove others' sins. It's best to focus on eliminating our own.

Be much in prayer; live much upon the Word of God; kill the lusts which have driven your Lord from you; be careful to watch over the future uprisings of sin. |
When I was loathsome and self-abhorred, thou didst receive me as thy child, and thou didst satisfy my craving wants. Blessed for ever be thy name for this free, rich, abounding mercy.

...and by his light I walked through darkness! JOB 29:3 NIV
God Quickens Us by Pat Nordman
|
God quickens us with: 1) Power: equal proportions of poise and passion to make life stimulating. God gives an ample measure of courage to meet life's challenges, too. "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded" Hebrews 10:35. It isn't so much self-confidence as it is God-confidence. The conditions are persistence and consistence. We apply and God supplies. 2) Love: the stamp of a Christian life that certifies us as His epistles and apostles. Jesus in love came to save sinners, not to condemn and punish us, and this gives us great hope. "All men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another" John 13:35. Dryden said: "Love is a passion which kindles honor into noble acts." "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment" 1 John 4:18. Fear is replaced with a steadfast love that becomes our motivation for everything we do in life. We would also do well to remember that a healthy self-love is taught by our Teacher: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Our Friend died for us, too. 3) Self-discipline: that gift from the Holy Spirit that enables us to be reasonable and willing, and which disables us from sin and its leaches that sap our spirit and senses. "It is better to be slow-tempered than famous; it is better to have self-control than to control an army" Proverbs 16:32 TLB. Self-control implies self-denial and self-examination. When we have these, we can then have self-respect, as well. Send a note to Pat Nordman , the writer of this devotion. |
