Then Jesus said to them, "Be careful and guard against all kinds of greed. Life is not measured by how much one owns.

Covetousness is both the beginning and the end of the devil's alphabet -- the first vice in corrupt nature that moves, and the last which dies.

"Love...always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres" (1 Corinthians 13:7). Is this possible? What a long time Always is and for everyone and everything in our life!

Imagine, always enduring wrongs and evils; always believing only the best of others; always hoping, even when facts and faces appear hopeless; always recommencing and recompensing ... Graces such as these grow in the time, thought and prayer we give them. It is a rare youth who understands, much less covets, what slows him in his rush to live. But the older person looks back and knows love and what it encompasses is indeed the true victory.

"So walk ye in him."

-Colossians 2:6

"His place of defense shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure."

- Isaiah 33:16

How many Christians think that in the morning and evening they ought to come into the company of Jesus, and may then give their hearts to the world all the day: but this is poor living; we should always be with him, treading in his steps and doing his will.

When not a sparrow falls to the ground without your Father, and the very hairs of your head are all numbered, will you mistrust and doubt him? Perhaps your affliction will continue upon you till you dare to trust your God, and then it shall end.

...and by his light I walked through darkness!    JOB 29:3 NIV

Christ is My ... ?

by Pat Nordman

"What do you think about the Christ?"

 Matthew 22:42

"But what about you?. . .Who do you say I am?"

Matthew 16:15

We might paraphrase Philippians 4:8: "He is noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy--think about this Person." Freedom of thought is implied in this question about Christ. Tyrants don't want others to think, but Christ recognizes our freedom of choice when He asks us what we understand about Him.

Our own character cannot be formed until we have a clear understanding of Christ's character. Christ calls Himself the Son of Man (Matthew 8:20). "But [he] made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness, being found in appearance as a man" Philippians 2:7,8a. In Colossians 2:9 we read, "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form." So He is also the Son of God.

It is interesting that Satan discerned Christ's divinity: "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?" Mark 5:7. But we earthlings are too blue-blooded to believe that Christ shed red blood to ransom us. But! "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ" Colossians 2:8.

What do we think of Christ? Do we think of Him less--and less of Him--when life is not what we want it to be? We will fall in love with Him only as we study His life and His mission. Then, as we learn about Him, He becomes our Anchor in the storms rather than the scapegoat on which we lay all our troubles.

What do we think of Christ as our Friend, our Messiah, our Judge, our Shepherd and our Lamb? Do we really believe that He is all things to all of us?

~ Rev. Joe Wright's Prayer ~

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good" but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that: We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism; we have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism; we have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle; we have exploited the poor and called it the lottery; we have rewarded laziness and called it welfare; we have killed our unborn and called it choice: we have shot abortionists and called it justifiable; we have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem; we have abused power and called it politics; we have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition; we have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression; we have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, to open ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen."

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea. Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on "The Rest of the Story" on the radio and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire that we again can be called one nation under God.

Who is among you that fears the LORD, That obeys the voice of His servant, That walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.
