Richad M. Nixon
Ted was friends with Art Buchwald at the height of the Watergate scandal
in the mid 70's, and Mr. Buchwald had challenged Ted to write a political
book for a change. Being the Seuss he was he quickly grabbed a copy of
``Marvin K. Mooney, Will You Please Go Now!''a book published in 1972, and
enjoyed some success, and edited in Richard M. Nixon at every mention of
Marvin K. Mooney. Buchwald, at the time had a syndicated column in the
newspapers, and asked permission from Ted to print it. Random House was
against it, and with the agreement of Ted, on July 30, 1974 the following
piece ran in the papers, with Buchwald taking full credit, and Ted taking
full intent.
Richard M. Nixon, will you please go now!
The time has come.
The time is now.
Just go.
Go.
Go!
I don't care how.
You can go by foot.
you can go by cow.
Richard M. Nixon, will you please go now!
You can go on skates.
You can go on skis.
You can go in hat
But
Please go...
Please!...
Nine days later, on August 8, 1974 the citizens of the United States
listened and watched as President Nixon, announced his resignation.
