This course will provide the adult learner with skills needed to utilize the internet and with further practice, to later integrate the internet into the classroom curriculum or the workplace. This course is intended to provide teachers and staff members with the necessary support in order to master new technologies. The adult learner will be able to use this course to improve the way in which they use computers in their everyday lives as well as in the classroom and the workplace. The format for this course is three two-hour sessions of in class instruction including use of the Internet, word processing and e-mail via the Internet, and web page design. This course is designed for any Alice Drive Middle School staff member wishing to upgrade his or her technology skills.
It is our intent that these learning sessions will enable the learner to become knowledgeable of and transmitters of current practices in technology as this century nears an end and we move further into the computer era. The revolutionary growth and availability of computer power has catapulted us into the Information Age. With the increased availability and use of computers, computer literacy is becoming as necessary as reading literacy. Because computers are becoming so commonplace, people in all fields of endeavor must acquire the skills to use the software that is being produced and marketed as well being able to tap into the vast amount of information available via the Internet. In additon, we must all gain a better understanding of the procedures and practices needed to guide us and our future generations into the Information Age.
All participants should attend all learning sessions, participate in class and pass in project. The project may require additional lab time. It is also suggested that you practice the skills obtained at school or at home for reinforcement.
