a process of self activity

Friedrich Froebel, the creator of the system of kindergarten known worldwide, had the firm conviction that:

"All education is basically a process of self activity in which the native endowments of the individual unfold naturally in accordance with an all pervasive law of organic development."

Froebel demonstrated his educational philosophies by creating and running schools and training teachers who took kindergarten around the world. The success of kindergarten depended on the ability of the teacher to inspire and motivate the children.

The Froebel Movement is one of the three European child-centered movements. All three enjoy the particularly appropriate distinction of having been banned by autocratic and repressive governments for promoting centers of free expression and experiment.

Many of his ideas and methods are widely accepted by educators who aim to expand consciousness, improve perception, harmoniously use both hemispheres of the brain and challenge students to think for themselves rather than learning by rote and memorization.
