Brisbin, Terri - LOVE THROUGH TIME, A  (Jove - 1998) (4+)
Maggie Hobbs, a schoolteacher in New Jersey, decides to take a tour of Scotland and England after she breaks up with her overbearing boyfriend of two years. Meanwhile, Alex MacKendimen, an accountant in New Jersey, is also planning to attend a family reunion in Scotland with his aunt. His fiancée ends their engagement because she is tired of being last in his life, but instead of experiencing any remorse about the breakup, he feels a sense of relief.

After arriving in Scotland, Maggie's tour bus breaks down at the village Dunnedin. While the bus is being repaired she decides to enjoy the local festivities, namely a clan gathering that is held for the villagers to introduce the heir of the clan or the new laird. This is, of course, the "family reunion" Alex and his aunt have traveled to attend. Maggie and Alex meet at the gathering and they are instantly attracted to one another. They strike up a conversation and discover they have much in common. He tells her that he wishes they had more time together in Scotland to get to know each other. An old woman named Mairi happens along at that moment, and announces that Alex has been granted a second chance for the time he has wished for. Alex and Maggie are then literally pushed through an ancient archway, which was once part of the MacKendimen clan's castle. When they recover from their fall through the archway, they discover they are no longer in the present time—the castle door has transported them to Scotland of centuries past.

Alex and Maggie plan to stay together and try to find a way back in time. But they are suddenly surrounded by the MacKendimen clan, who mistake Alex for the MacKendimen laird's son and assume Maggie is his leman. In the absence of a plan, the two find themselves playing along with the charade, and they are taken to Laird Struan, Alex's "father," at the MacKendimen castle. A bond forms between Maggie and Alex as they turn to each other for support and answers, while they adjust to their new surroundings. And this closeness eventually turns to passion. They have one of their answers when a healer, gifted with "the sight," tells Alex that he was sent to this time and place to learn the power of true love...and that Maggie is his teacher.

Ms. Brisbin's debut novel is a tantalizing blend of history, fantasy and romance. This emotionally beautiful time-travel will capture your attention and your heart as the story of two destined lovers—a courageous heroine and a sexy, protective hero—unfolds and they experience A LOVE THROUGH TIME. ~Robin Peek for Bookbug on the Web

Brisbin, Terri - MATTER OF TIME, A  (Jove - 11/99) (4)
While vacationing in Scotland, and as fate has destined, Douglas MacKendimen is forced to travel back in time to save Caitlin MacInnis from rape and torture at the hands of Gaelic warriors. Destined to meet someday, both Douglas and Caitlin instantly recognize each other from their haunting "fire dreams."

Having landed in fourteenth-century Scotland, Douglas is struggling to understand his journey into the past. He remembers his mother's frequent tales of traveling in time, but thought they were stories made up to entertain the family. Now, stranded in a time and place that is only familiar to him because of annual clan reenactments, he visits the laird's castle. Douglas is told how his parents visited Dunnedin, Scotland years ago through the "archway," by the power of the Fates. The very same archway that he walked through just days ago.

After hearing the news of Douglas' ancestry, Caitlin realizes the "man of her dreams" will never be interested in claiming her. Not only is he a visitor to this time, he's a trained physician, while she is only the daughter of a blacksmith and clan healer. What kind of future could she expect with someone like Douglas?  Her dreams had led her to believe she and Douglas were meant for each other, but his actions indicate he will leave her someday.

Can two people, whose fates were sealed before they were born, find love and happiness with each other?  A MATTER OF TIME is the eagerly anticipated sequel to A LOVE THROUGH TIME. Once again, Terri Brisbin takes us on a romantic and sensual journey through Medieval Scotland as she vividly brings to life the small village and people of Dunnedin. A MATTER OF TIME blends fantasy and romance with a story that is rich in Scottish tradition and passionate in the telling. ~Olivia Holton for Bookbug on the Web
