Campbell, Terry - INTIMATE INVESTOR  (E-book; Hard Shell - 1998) (4)
In INTIMATE INVESTOR, Raye Franklin is a registered nurse who needs an investor in order to start her own home-health-care business. The only inquiry she has received is from Macon Winston, and his reason for financing her business is simple. In the past, his grandfather was forced to stay in the hospital instead of being able to stay home and spend his remaining days in a familiar setting. Macon's surviving grandmother is in her late eighties and wants her to have better health-care options.

Right from the start, Raye and Macon are attracted to one another. As a matter of fact, ever since Raye first set eyes on Macon the "stud muffin," her nerves and klutziness have been operating at full throttle. To make matters worse, Macon's only condition to the loan is that he be the business manager for the first six weeks of operation. Raye agrees, but her concern is how she is going to be able to concentrate when this man...and his body...put her on "alert status" whenever she is near him. Thanks to Raye's mother, as well as her office assistant and Macon's grandmother—the three matchmakers from hell—what follows is nonstop laughter as each attempts to get the duo together.

When they finally do become a couple, Macon blows it and completely upsets Raye. She goes into hiding and, when a repentant Macon attempts to locate her, he runs up against three angry women, all of whom are determined to keep him away from Raye now. In addition, his sister Carol, who is angry at all men in general, adds to the havoc and voices her opinion about Macon's behavior.

When a book has me laughing in the first chapter and keeps me involved and grinning throughout, I know I've found a winner. I didn't want to put this absolutely delightful read aside. INTIMATE INVESTOR is the book to start with if you haven't jumped into the e-book pool yet. It's short, snappy, and fun!  ~Pat Cavender for Bookbug on the Web

Campbell, Terry - MR. WRONG  (E-book; Hard Shell - 5/99) (4+)
When Rourke Hawthorne meets his childhood friend and CPA, Kat Snow, for dinner and she reveals an interesting list of criteria her future mate will be required to have, he is not prepared for this bit of information. Levelheaded Kat, the woman he works with every day and knows so well, is husband hunting?  At first, the handsome divorce attorney assumes he fits her requirements and thinks she may be leading up to a discussion about marriage...with him in mind; but when Kat tells him he doesn't meet the criteria—that he's the perfect example of MR. WRONG, Rourke's ego takes a severe bashing.

He is actually stunned that Kat is ready to tie the knot again, after suffering through a bad marriage that had ended with her husband's death. Rourke does agree to help her, however; and he proceeds to take Kat out on "training missions" so she may learn how to attract men. This is when the real fun starts, but it doesn't take long before he begins to see the sensual side of his childhood buddy and realizes he must now convince Kat he is her Mr. Right.

What a book!  I found myself laughing out loud during several scenes, and the characters hooked me so completely that it was impossible to stop reading until the end. MR. WRONG has all the humor, engaging characters, and high emotion that I've come to expect from Terry Campbell. E-book fans, don't miss this one!  ~Pat Cavender for Bookbug on the Web

Canham, Marsha - BLOOD OF ROSES, THE  (Dell - Reissue 1998) (5)
I was emotionally overwhelmed by this book. THE BLOOD OF ROSES is a classic historical novel. Canham creates characters that you love to read about and really care for; not just the hero and heroine, but the secondary characters as well, including the Highlanders. They have such depth that you can really feel what they must have gone through. She also creates evil, diabolical villians. This is a very exciting book with incredible action, but it does have a lot of tragedy. It is not a book where everyone goes back to their castle and lives happily ever after. I can't wait to read more of Marsha Canham's books. I just hope they're a little happier. ~Ellen L. (ellenl1@hotmail.com)

Canham, Marsha - PRIDE OF LIONS, THE  (Dell - Reissue 1997) (5)
Alex Cameron, a legendary Scottish warrior, seems willing to sacrifice his life and happiness for the sake of his pride and honor. When his wife was killed 15 years before, he swore never to love or marry again—yet he marries Catherine, something neither of them wanted. Eventually they fall in love, and when Alex sends Catherine away to keep her safe...as war wages between Scotland and England, it's heartbreaking. This book is also action-packed and exciting, with passionate and intense characters. PRIDE OF THE LIONS is a classic historical romance—one of the best that I've read. ~Ellen L. Cantrell, Raine - TARNISHED HEARTS  (Topaz - 1994)
This book is about a sensitive young couple from different classes—he's a Southern aristocrat and she's an overseer's daughter. They fall in love, but war and deceit tear them apart.

I didn't finish this book. I bought it three years ago when I did a lot of impulse buying; and because I don't read back-cover blurbs because they often contain spoilers, I didn't realize that TARNISHED HEARTS takes place during the Civil War (one of my least favorite time periods) until I started reading it. The beginning had me near tears so I kept reading, but I skimmed to the end when I saw the inevitable "long hero/heroine-separation" and "the big misunderstanding" coming. I do like this writer's emotional style though—I just wasn't crazy about the plot elements. I'm willing to try her again. Can anyone recommend something I might like? ~Laurie S.
