Justine Davis - Geralyn Dawson

Davis, Justine - MORNING SIDE OF DAWN, THE  (SIM 674) (4+)
The hero is disabled, and after being rejected by the people who meant the most to him, he has spent the majority of his adult life avoiding people. The heroine is a rich super-model, who is unhappy with her life and envious of those who have found love. People just don't care to dig deep enough to see the beauty inside her. The author has created a model who is surprisingly easy to like. Her dogged attraction to the reluctant hero and her determination to break down his barriers come across realistically...and touched me deeply. The hero is one of the most unforgettable men I've ever read about in a romance. He's beautiful and wounded—both inside and out—and oh, so deserving of love. This is a compassionate love story even my shoddy memory won't soon forget. ~Laurie S. (shallah@empire.net)

Davis, Justine - OUT OF THE DARK  (Silh. Int. Mom. 638) (4)
The story revolves around a lonely heroine who works on a ranch with her ailing uncle, a former rodeo clown. Their horses are mysteriously dying, so she begs the hero, a rodeo-bull-rider-turned-detective, to help find the horse killers. The hero has a wounded past, but he owes his life to the rodeo clown, so he agrees to help. There's a lot of angst in both the hero's and heroine's pasts that they need to get through, but the love scenes are quite well done. ~Anita S. (mysanita@juno.com)

Dawson, Geralyn - BAD LUCK WEDDING DRESS, THE
(Bantam - 1996) (4+)
Jenny had left the big, cold city and her father's business to be on her own. She runs a successful dressmaking business until tragedy strikes each of the sisters who wears the wedding dress she made. Their superstitious father claims "the bad luck wedding dress" is the cause. Jenny's landlord, Trace McBride, is a tavern owner and the father of three little hellions, who decide to play matchmaker because they want Jenny for their mother. Trace hides a secret past, however, and has no such plans for his future. There are so many laugh-out-loud scenes in this book, and I enjoyed it so much that I wrote the author and asked if there would be a sequel. And, yes, there will be!  ~Carol C. (angelca@ibm.net)

Dawson, Geralyn - KISSING STARS, THE  (Pocket/Sonnet - 4/99) (4+)
It's been twelve long years since Gabe "Whip" Montana saw Tess Cameron, and running into her at a fair during the greased pig contest brings back some very vivid memories. The last time he'd seen her, Tess had been his wife, and her feelings then had been very clear. After a terrible tragedy for which she'd held him responsible, Tess had told him to leave and never come back. Judging from the look on her face now, twelve years hasn't changed those feelings one iota.

When Tess sees Gabe again, she is overwhelmed by memories. At one time he'd been the love of her life, but now a world of secrets exists between them—secrets that are bound to make him furious if they are revealed. First and foremost is the fact that, even though he thought their marriage had ended many years ago, she knows they've never been legally divorced. How would he react to the shocking news that they are still man and wife? Deciding that she needs some time to sort things out, Tess gathers up her pig, Rosie, along with the quirky entourage that makes up part of her "family," and gets out of town on the first available train.

When Tess disappears without so much as a by-your-leave, Gabe tracks her down in a dusty little settlement located in "the back of beyond." Aurora Springs, Texas has become home to Tess and a group of individuals and animals that can only be called peculiar to those outside the family. Gabe isn't exactly sure why he's there, but he feels an overwhelming need to get answers to questions that have lain dormant for years. The people he meets in Aurora Springs are almost as strange as the animals who live there. However, the mysterious stars and the lovely Tess can't be ignored by a man who'd been obsessed by both in his youth.

Geralyn Dawson always spins a delightful, whimsical yarn, and she's done it again with her latest western romance, THE KISSING STARS. This is a compelling story about a group of people who, while not necessarily related by blood, have become a strong family nonetheless. You'll find offbeat, capricious characters—both human and animal—along with plenty of humor and an intriguing element of suspense. Layered over all is a beautiful love story, and the author's slight foray into the paranormal successfully weaves a magical feeling into the fabric of this very enjoyable romance. I devoured THE KISSING STARS in one sitting and highly recommend it!  ~Connie Ramsdell for Bookbug on the Web

Dawson, Geralyn - WEDDING RANSOM, THE  (Pocket - 1998) (5)
I had high expectations when I starting reading this book because I thoroughly enjoyed its prequel, THE WEDDING RAFFLE.  I wasn't disappointed in the least. In fact, I enjoyed THE WEDDING RANSOM so much that I read it twice!  It has everything: romance, adventure, a hero to die for, a feisty heroine, lots of humor, drama, and fantastic love scenes.

The fun and adventure begin with the first sentence and escalate from there. We are introduced to Gentleman Rafe Malone, a retired thief who longs for the adventure of his past. He is a rake who loves women and has had no trouble in the past getting their attention. However, the cast of four grandfathers—a colorful bunch of retired pirates—attempt to discourage this amorous trait in Rafe when it comes to their granddaughter, Maggie. The elderly pirates really get Rafe's attention as they test his mettle, but he loves a challenge (grin).  After he earns their approval, they make him an offer he can't refuse. Rafe is sent on a treasure hunt, and along the way he meets up with his nemesis, a half-brother. We get answers to questions left undone in THE WEDDING RAFFLE as the hero's past unravels. We also get a delightful romance and happily-ever-after ending as Rafe and Maggie discover that love is the true treasure in life. This is Geralyn Dawson's best book yet!  ~Carol Carter for Bookbug on the Web
