Christine Feehan - DARK PRINCE  (Love Spell - 1999) (4+)
Wow, what a book!  All the raves are definitely justified. DARK PRINCE is a powerful debut novel—dark, sexy, compelling, with great atmosphere and imagery. This book grabbed me right from the first page!

For those who might not know, DARK PRINCE is about an ancient race called the "Carpathians," similar to vampires, but vampires are the ones who have turned to the dark side, so to speak. I highly recommend DARK PRINCE to any paranormal romance lover—it's a fabulous book!  Best of all, it's only the first in a series of nine. ~Karen W. (YWQE15B@prodigy.com)

Fetzer, Amy J. - GOING...GOING...WED!  (Silh. Desire 1265 - 1/00) (3+)
Amy J. Fetzer has created two very strong characters in her latest romance, GOING...GOING...WED!  From the beginning, you want to see the ultimate bachelor, suave Alexander Donahue, meet love head-on. You quickly realize that even though he has met his match in competent, confident, wife-for-hire Madison Holt, they are destined to be at odds when it comes to a relationship. Madison's down-to-earth lifestyle will clash with high-society Alex every time.

When Alex asks Maddy to pose as his wife in order to seal the business deal of a lifetime, the plot thickens. This reader could not wait to see if the pretend marriage between the virgin and the playboy would become real. The tension, created by the close quarters they are required to keep during the business dealings, is palpable. It's fun to watch both of these strong-willed people sweat. There is a fleeting moment of disappointment at the ending of GOING...GOING...WED!, but not enough to effect the overall emotion of the book. I recommend this short, sexy read. ~Lisa K. Fetzer, Amy J. - IRISH PRINCESS, THE  (Zebra - 1999) (4)
Siobhan O'Rourke, Princess of Donegal Keep, has sworn to protect her people and not have them suffer. When King Henry sends Gaelan PenDragon to take over Donegal Keep, the Irish princess allows him entry but vows she will never surrender to him nor swear an oath of fealty to King Henry. Siobhan is a strong, proud woman who does not bend easily. She will fiercely protect those she loves, but if she is not careful, this need to protect will be her undoing.

Although the English warrior has never known defeat on the battlefield, neither has he known love—which will be his defeat. Gaelan is an incomplete man with a fragile sense of self, who does not realize all his strengths. He does realize, however, that before he can win Siobhan, he must gain the trust of her son Connal and the people of Donegal Keep. Eventually, love begins to grow between the princess and the warrior, but a secret that Gaelan must keep to himself threatens to destroy all they have achieved. Lies and a conspiracy to betray Gaelan and Siobhan by the people closest to them also threaten that fragile love. Adding to the danger, someone other than King Henry wants Donegal Keep, and this person will stop at nothing—not even murder—to achieve that end.

Set in the lush, green valleys amid the glory that was medieval Ireland, THE IRISH PRINCESS is a spellbinding tale that kept me turning pages well after my bedtime. While I know a lot about recent Irish history, I know next to nothing about medieval Ireland, so this was a journey of discovery that I was very glad I made. It was also a pleasure watching Gaelan stretch and grow and really become his own man, not just a sword for hire for the King. Siobhan also grows, but in a different way, as she learns to trust and to give and accept a loving, caring man. Amy J. Fetzer makes these characters and their story come alive. ~Beth Coogan for Bookbug on the Web

Fetzer, Amy J. - REBEL HEART  (Zebra - 1998) (4)
After her parents are killed, Michaela Denton goes to live with her uncle, who takes her freedom and her inheritance and treats her like a servant. Michaela rebels by becoming a spy for the Americans during the American Revolution. Because her uncle is a staunch loyalist, she is in a position to find out information that would not otherwise be available to her allies.

Captain Rein Montgomery is determined to find the biological father who abandoned him, believing this man to be a high-ranking British aristocrat. When Rein and Michaela's paths cross, he is escaping from highwaymen and she is in the path of his galloping horse. Believing she has been found out as a spy, Michaela shoots Rein, but the bullet misses his heart and lodges in his shoulder instead. Despite his injury, the Captain lifts her up onto his horse and carries her away to his ship, where he forces her to tend the wound. Rein eventually discovers Michaela's secret life and has to decide between his obsession with finding his father or protecting Michaela from forces she cannot control. If caught, they will both be hung for treason.

Interestingly, none of the action in REBEL HEART takes place in America. The majority of the action is centered in London, along with some South Seas adventure, giving readers a very different perspective on the American Revolution. While I knew there was intrigue in England at the time of the Revolution, I never really thought about the English spying for the colonists. Amy J. Fetzer brings eighteenth-century London and the South Seas to life with her vivid descriptions and I would recommend REBEL HEART to any fan of historical romance. ~Beth Coogan for Bookbug on the Web
