Greiman, Lois - HIGHLAND ENCHANTMENT  (Avon - 1999) (3+)
Setting: Scotland 1520
Lois Greiman takes you on an exiting adventure through the moors of Scotland as yet another battle for the Dragonheart pendant rages. In the final episode of the Highland Brides series, fate brings Rachel and Liam together to fight against the evil Warwick. In an effort to escape capture, they hide with a group of traveling gypsies, and while Liam plies his art of juggling, Rachel changes from "the Lady Saint" into the wanton gypsy dancer who tempts him. Both lovers hide their true feelings from each other, as Liam believes himself unworthy and Rachel fears his rejection.

As they run from evil, this couple faces many trials before they finally reach a point where they admit their love for each other. Lois Greiman mixes sensuality with suspense as these two follow a quest to restore Dragonheart to its rightful place, away from the demonic Warwick. Be ready to taste their fear as both Rachel and Liam experience the terror and power of pure evil. In the final chapter, readers will revisit with several characters from the two previous book in this series, providing a satisfying ending. HIGHLAND ENCHANTMENT a fine conclusion to the trilogy about the Highland Brides: Sara, Shona, and Rachel. ~Carol Carter for Bookbug on The Web

Greiman, Lois - HIGHLAND SCOUNDREL  (Avon - 1998) (4+)
Setting:  Scotland, 16th-century
Shona MacGowan, the only daughter of the famous Flame and the handsome Roderic the Rogue (from THE HIGHLAND FLAME), has her indulgent father wrapped around her little finger. She is a very independent woman for her time, and quite headstrong, high spirited and spoiled. Having learned to fight with her father's men, Shona can win competitions with either bow and arrow or sword. She can ride like the wind on the greatest stallion, and cares not to bow down to any man...nor marry. With Scotland in turmoil and political unrest, her father hosts a gathering of the clans to unite them, but invites eligible suitors with the real objective of finding a husband for his strong-willed daughter. She will meet the one who can beat her at her own games very soon in one knight known as Drugald Kinnaird.

As Drugald passes by a lake on his way to the event, he notices a beautiful woman who has just taken a tumble into the water. Before he can dismount, Shona wades out of the lake with her clothing so drenched and clinging that there is nothing left to imagine about her body, and he is immediately in lust. She pretends to be a maid from the castle, never believing the knight would recognize her should they meet again. Drugald teases and banters with her, then takes her into his embrace, making Shona have second thoughts about marriage. Later, playing the part of an enamored suitor fits right into his scheme as we learn this warrior has been sent on a mission to kill Shona for being a traitor to the King. However, his plan begins to backfire when he starts to have strong feelings for the bonnie lass.

You are in for an exciting read as Shona and Drugald work together to uncover the real traitor who is plotting to kill King James. Shona keeps Drugald frustrated in not knowing what to expect from her, and she not only challenges him with contests, but his honor is also at risk as he falls more in love with her. For those who like to read about a strong, high-spirited woman and a man rugged enough to conquer her, HIGHLAND SCOUNDREL is the perfect choice. There is enough romance to satisfy, enough humor to make you laugh, an intriguing story line to provide reading enjoyment throughout, and Ms. Greiman has a nice surprise in store for you to end the story!  (This book can be enjoyed without reading the previous books in the Highland Brides series.)  ~Carol Carter for Bookbug on the Web
