Harrington, Kathleen - ENCHANTED BY YOU (AVON - 1998) (4+) Using the pretense of researching her family history, Julie Elkheart travels to Scotland, hoping to find the answer to the dream/vision she has had since she was fourteen-years old—dreams involving a brutal battle. The half-Cheyenne princess has learned much from her father, including how to handle a knife and remain calm in dangerous situations, and shortly after arriving in Edinburgh, she has the opportunity to prove her skills. She happens upon a man being beaten and rescues him from his attackers. Lyon MacLyon cannot comprehend that this "wee thing" saved his life. The exotic beauty disappeared when the police arrived on the scene, and now he is obsessed with finding her. He returns home to Strathlyon to tell his family about the courageous lass, only to learn that his grandmother's new guest, an American who is interested in studying their family's historical records, is none other than Julie! From that point on, Lyon hardly lets her out of his sight. An uncanny force draws them together, which he fights because of their age difference. He has also experienced the horrors of war, and because he feels guilty for not saving his older brother's life, he believes he doesn't deserve any love or happiness. With long hair the color of a lion's mane, our hero is aptly named—he reminds Julie of a wounded lion. He is suffering and she, who is gifted with healing powers, knows she can help him. As Julie gets involved with the research of her family history, she learns that her ancestors' clan was wiped out after they betrayed and slaughtered their allies. Once again she experiences the vision, and she soon discovers the truth—her ancestors were unjustly accused of these crimes. This knowledge exposes her to a world of treachery, hate, and life-threatening danger. Julie is not so easily deterred, however; this half-Scottish, half-Cheyenne princess has wisdom and courage beyond her years. She will not only fight to clear her family's name, but fight for the love that is destined to be hers. ENCHANTED BY YOU is an intriguing, passionate love story. It is the third installment in the Dreamseekers series that began with DREAM CATCHER and FLY WITH THE EAGLE. Kathleen Harrington is an excellent author—her romances are both compelling and heartwarming, and this series definitely belongs on your keeper shelf! ~Jolene Ehret for Bookbug on the Web

Harrington, Kathleen - MACLEAN GROOM, THE (Avon - 1999) (4) The Macdonalds are not loyal to James Stewart. Years earlier, Rory had captured Joanna's beloved grandfather and turned him over to the King to be hanged for treason. Joanna cannot forgive him for that and she goes into hiding, dressed as a serving boy named "Joey," to avoid the marriage. However, Rory soon sees through her disguise and trains Joey to be his personal servant—all the while teasing "him" about how he will tame Lady Joanna. When Joanna doesn't show up for their wedding, Rory tells everyone he will wed her by proxy and asks Joey to stand in to take the vows for her. Following the ceremony, Rory confesses he knew Joey's true identity, then kisses her. He already has feelings for his bride, and he wants Joanna to love him too, but he wonders if she can ever put the past behind them. THE MACLEAN GROOM, the first book in Kathleen Harrington's Highland Lairds trilogy, captures the violence and politics of Scotland in the late 1400s. The story is well balanced with romance, as well as some enjoyable humor brought about by Joanna's disguise and her opinion of the MacLeans. I highly recommend THE MACLEAN GROOM and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. ~Karen Witkowski for Bookbug on the Web
Harrington, Kathleen - PROMISE ME (1995) (4) Reunion premise. The hero's wife ran off with his best friend, he divorced her, and now she's back in England. What Harrington does with the story and the secondary characters is very, very different. Good book. ~Anne (loves2read@juno.com)
