Page Contents: Iris Johansen - Susan Johnson
Johansen, Iris - FACE OF DECEPTION, THE (Bantam - 1999) (4+) Eve Duncan identifies dead children by reconstructing their faces. When a skull is found, she uses measurements, computers, and clay to rebuild the face, then superimposes a picture on it to see if it's a match. When her daughter Bonnie disappeared several years before, the body was never found, so Eve is without closure—even though she knows who killed her daughter. John Logan approaches Eve with a job to reconstruct a skull and offers her so much money for the Children's Fund that she cannot refuse. When she realizes just whom she has reconstructed, she is stunned. Now people are trying to kill her! Logan and Eve's best friend, Joe Quinn (a policeman), are doing their best to keep her safe, as well as bring down the killers; but they are dealing with high-ranking people in the government, which makes this a difficult task. THE FACE OF DECEPTION is a very well-written romantic suspense—another winner by Iris Johansen, who keeps the tension high throughout the entire book. Eve is a tough but vulnerable woman, and the heroes, both John Logan and Joe Quinn, are strong alpha types. Apparently, Iris Johansen liked Eve so much she decided to write another book, THE KILLING GAME, about the fascinating forensic sculptress. I'm eager to read it since the first book left me hanging on a few points. But I am rooting for Joe Quinn to win the lady! ~Marilyn H. (mlyn@jps.ne)
Johnson, Susan - SINFUL (Bantam - 1993) (3+) Chelsea Fergusson seeks to lose her virginity so she will be "spoiled goods" for her betrothed (in the hopes of cancelling the wedding). She visits the most profligate rogue in London, Sinjin St. John, seeking his assistance with this delicate matter. SINFUL is not my favorite book by Susan Johnson, but I did enjoy it. ~Tammy (greene_t@mediasoft.net)
Johnson, Susan - TOUCH OF SIN (Bantam - 1999) (4+) Beatrix "Trixie" Grosvenor is rescued from a very compromising situation by Pasha Duras, one of Europe's most charming rogues. While he is not certain he believes Trixie's story, he isn't willing to let her leave his life. Together, the beautiful widow and notorious rake travel through Europe on a journey of passion and deadly intrigue. Parting company in England, Pasha leaves Trixie in what he thinks is a secure life and departs for the war in Greece. Soon, however, our heroine is once again embroiled in danger. She flees England with her love child, only to have her enemies pursue her and the child, further endangering Pasha while he is fighting in Greece. Although Trixie and Pasha become lovers before they become friends, something happens that teaches them both how deep and forgiving true love is. Their relationship evolves into a union neither expected...and can't live without. Susan Johnson does not disappoint. TOUCH OF SIN is sexy, seductive and poignant. The historical facts alone are intriguing and interesting as only Johnson knows how to incorporate them into a story. This couple will win your heart—they did mine. Bravo! ~Mary K.
