Pace, Miriam - MOVING VIOLATIONS (E-book; Awe-Struck
- 1999) (3+) Jessica was injured in a car accident, which left her paralyzed and widowed; but Mac doesn't treat her like a handicapped person and he doesn't dwell on her past, so Jessica quickly accepts his presence. He does notice that she takes unnecessary risks, however, such as driving her car recklessly, almost daring someone to hit her. It seems obvious that she doesn't take care of herself, and Mac wonders if she has a secret death wish. As they come to know one another, Mac and Jessica realize they must work at accepting their limitations and their feelings before they can fully enjoy all that life has to offer. In MOVING VIOLATIONS, Miriam Pace paints a picture of a tough but caring woman who must put her past behind her and work at finding a life outside of her job. I didn't care for the heroine very much in the beginning, but as I continued reading, I began to understand the approach the author was taking...and I was happy with the outcome. Ms. Pace tells an exciting, tense story while approaching romance from a different viewpoint. I would like to read more books about handicapped people—books that show you don't have to be physically perfect to have a soul mate and be happy. ~Pat Cavender for Bookbug on the Web
Paige, Laurie - HUSBAND: BOUGHT AND PAID FOR (SSE 1139) (4+) Someone is trying to kill Chicago heiress, Jessica Lockhart. After she inherits a fortune from her grandfather, her trustees hire Brody Smith to protect her. Oh, what a bodyguard he is—gorgeous, sensual, silent and serious. She makes him an offer (purely for business/protection, of course): a one-year marriage, to be lived out on his Colorado ranch. Jessica is an attractive, young woman with a sensible and sunny outlook. Brody is a qualified, capable professional who never allows "entanglements" to complicate his career or life. Here are two very complete individuals who discover they are much more as two parts of a whole. A story that could be trite is not. Ms. Paige's characters are full-bodied, rich, and sensual. The story, setting, characters, and their connection with each other—especially their open, honest dialogue—just clicked with me. ~Mona M. (monamont@3rivers.net)
