Gayle Wilson - Leanna Wilson

Wilson, Gayle - HIS SECRET DUCHESS  (Harl. Hist. - 1997) (3)
Young lovers are separated by war, and heroine must make some life-changing decisions to protect her unborn child and survive when the hero doesn't return for her. Years later, they are reunited after she's charged with attempted murder and his son is claimed by another man. Compelling tale, well-told. High angst level, which I always enjoy, but the sex scenes were few and far between (bummer!). Villain is good and crazy. ~Kathy G. (kathy@cs.utexas.edu)

Wilson, Leanna - ARE YOU MY DADDY?  (Silh. Rom. 1331) (4)
Cody Thomas, a six-year-old boy, is the catalyst in this romantic story. He enters his first rodeo event ever, riding bareback on a bucking sheep, and meets Joe, a retired three-time rodeo champion. While preparing for the event, Cody touches Joe's heart, something the baffled cowboy thought was dead. When the boy is thrown face-down, unconscious at the end of the ride, Joe encounters a fearful and angry momma. Marty is not only upset because her son is hurt—she is angry with her ex-husband for planting the seed in Cody's mind to be a cowboy. Joe insists on taking the boy to the hospital. Unknown to Marty is the fear and guilt he senses while dealing with both Cody and his own past. When the child wakes up, he has temporary amnesia and thinks Joe is his father. This is the beginning of an unusual turn of events as the rodeo champ pretends to be the daddy in the family until Cody can recover his memory.

Leanna Wilson has created a story with a twist, giving Cody a lead role. He is a darling little boy, but he slyly manipulates the budding romance between his mother and Joe. As the couple spends more time together, while recalling their pasts, they experience healing and learn to trust again. Marty has a hard time fighting her feelings for this tough, but tender and sensitive cowboy, and sparks fly as the sexual tension grows between them. There is a climactic scene near the end of the story that enlightens both Joe and Marty, giving Cody and the readers a happily-ever-after ending. While the author's previous stories were light and filled with humor, this one is emotion-packed as she effectively deals with two hurting people and a child deeply affected by his parents' divorce. As with her other titles, I found this to be a page-turner and wished it could have been longer. ~Carol Carter for Bookbug on the Web

Wilson, Leanna - HIS TOMBOY BRIDE  (Silh. Rom. 1305) (4+)
When Nick Latham finds out that longtime friend, Billie Rae, is getting married, he rushes to her family ranch. He meets the stuffy, rich groom-to-be, and after discovering the couple is not marrying for love, he is determined to break up their wedding plans.

Billie Rae, her brother and Nick had grown up together. She was a real tomboy and they taught her things like riding, roping, and boxing. Nick also taught her about heartbreak. She had always loved him, and when he married someone else, she vowed never to give her heart in love again. Nick's marriage eventually ended in divorce, leaving him shattered, and he made a vow of his own—to never remarry.

Now Nick steps in and makes a bargain with Billie Rae and her fiancé, and in the process of attempting to break them apart, he decides he doesn't want anyone else to marry her either. It is fun reading how this bargain backfires. Leanna Wilson delivers a story with great dialogue, humor, and tenderness. I wish I could have read the next scene after  the ending, but because this is a Silhouette Romance, the sensual fulfillment is left to the reader's imagination. HIS TOMBOY BRIDE is a very sweet, enjoyable read. ~Carol Carter for Bookbug on the Web
