The President of Estonia visits Japan

The President of Estonia Lennart Meri will arrive for a visit in Japan March19. March 24 the President opens the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Tokyowhich will be the first Estonian Embassy in an Asian country.

The President is scheduled to meet with Japan's Prime Minister RyutaroHashimoto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yukihiko Ikeda and the representatives ofthe Japanese parliament. On March 25 the President has an audience with theJapanese emperor Akihito.

On March 22 and 23 the Estonian President will take part in the session ofTrilateral Commission in Tokyo. The main themes discussed at the session will bethe economic changes in Europe and Japan, the Future of the Asia Pacific Region,economic trends and processes etc.

President Meri will be accompanied by a delegation of Estonian businessmen.

The Estonian delegation leaves Japan on March 26.
