Roman Bacchanalian festival was a harvest thanksgiving.  Testing of the new wines.  In modern times, it's a good excuse for a party.

Roman festival when holy wells and springs were venerated.

Winters Day

Marks the beginnin of the winter season in the old northern European Calendars.  Summer activities and long distance sailing stopped on this day.  Priority was given to winter preparations.

Ancient Rome began the Winter's Day tradition this day.  The season of combat was ended and weapons were put away (a shame this isn't world wide).
