Pacey banged on the door. "Jen! Unbolt the door!"

There was no answer.

"Damn it! Someone wake up and open the door!" Pacey banged harder. Still no answer. He was not only worried but scared as well. He shouldered the door. "Open the damn door!"

Pacey's heart raced as he went around the house, looking for a window to break. He found one and searched around for a rock. Pacey hesitated only an instant before smashing the window. He stuck his hand through the hole and unlocked the lock. He lifted it carefully and climbed through, cutting himself on the arms and face a few times.

"Joey?" Pacey called as soon as he was in. "Jen?"

No one answered.

"Joey!" Pacey went around to the rooms and threw open their doors. The first room. No one. The second one. No one. The third one. No one. The fourth one. Two girls and one guy.

The man had a knife to Joey's throat, and Jen was backed in the corner, trying not to cry. Her hands were over her mouth in a horrified state. Tears ran down her cheeks while Joey looked emotionless.

Pacey stared for an instant, then the man spoke. "If you take a step closer, I'll kill her." He rasped.

He was wearing all black, plus a ski mask. He looked big, at least twice Joey's size. Pacey didn't think he could take him without a knife or something.

But he had an idea.

"I don't care." Pacey shrugged. "I don't even like her."

The man faltered. "W-what?"

"Yeah. She's my girlfriends' best friend." Pacey snorted. "I could care less about her."

The man looked pissed as Pacey kept walking forward. "Unless you want her blood all over your body I suggest you stop moving."

"Look, I told you. I don't care about her." Pacey rolled his eyes. He began to chat like they were old friends. "We dated for a while, right? And she cheated on me with my best friend." He made a face. "Kill her. You'd be doing me a favor."

Joey's eyes met Pacey's and she remained emotionless.

Pacey took the final step forward, close enough that he could grab Joey. He swung his leg around behind her and between her and the man, kicking her knees out from under her. She cried out finally, falling against the man and down to the ground. The man was startled enough that Pacey could kick him, grab the knife, and toss his cell phone to Jen, which he'd kept hidden in his back pocket.

"The police would be good, after you see if she's okay." Pacey didn't turn from the man. He didn't even glance at Joey, who was already next to Jen.

"You alright?" Jen asked Joey.

"Y-yeah." Joey stuttered. Jen dialed the police with shaky fingers.

"H-hello? ... This guy just tried to break into my friends' and my house... W-what? ... H-he's against the-the wall right now... Y-yes... My friend has h-him... Okay... Okay... Yes... Okay... Good." She turned her mouth away from the phone. "They're on their way." She breathed out.

"Good." Pacey still didn't turn away from the guy.

"I take it you do still have feelings for her." The man sneered, looking towards Joey.

"That, my knife happy friend, is my girlfriend." Pacey smiled, obviously proud of himself. "And no one messes with her or they mess with me. Got it?"

"Yeah. I got it." The man shook his head disgustedly. "I can't believe I bought that story."

"Can I ask what you wanted with them?" Pacey asked, interested.

"He called us." Jen snapped angrily. "Pretended to be some guy from Scream."

"What?" The man glanced at her, confused. "I didn't."

"Of course not." Pacey said, mocking patience.

"I swear to god I didn't."

"Why should I believe you? For all I know you were in here trying to rape my girlfriend and our friend." Pacey sounded disbelieving. "You can't honestly think I'll believe you."

"Look. I won't deny that I broke in to steal some stuff, but I wasn't going to rape either of them or kill them."

"You know, you sound awfully friendly for someone who's a burgular." Pacey commented warily.

"I needed some stuff." The man shrugged.

"Dude how old are you?" Pacey couldn't believe this guy!

"25."

"You look more like you're a body building 39."

"Really? And you still came after me?"

"Man, I told you, you had my girlfriend." Pacey said, like this was obvious. "And I really, really love my girlfriend, so things threatening her is not on my 'okay' list."

"Aren't you a little young to be in love?"

"Aren't you a little slow to be a robber?"

"Probably."

"No."

"No what?"

"No I'm not a 'little young' to be in love."

"How old are you?"

"God man, what are you doing? Conducting a survey? 'Cause you're gonna be in jail soon."

There was a pounding on the front door. "I'll get that." Jen said softly. She ran out of the room and came back a few seconds later with 3 police officer. One of which was Deputy Doug.

"Hey there sweets. You broken up with my brother yet?" Doug asked Joey as the other two grabbed the man.

Joey just stared at him from her sitting position on the floor with horrified eyes.

Pacey, now without the burden of holding back the man, dove to Joey's feet and brought her sideways on his lap, wrapping his arms as tight around her as possible. She finally cried then, resting her chin on his shoulder. Then she buried her face in his shoulder and held impossibly tighter.

"Shhh... It's okay... I love you..." Pacey had a tremendously relieved look on his face as he held tight to her and tried to calm her down.

Joey didn't talk at all while he soothed her sweetly. Doug backed off, pausing for an instant to watch his brother and the love on his face. Doug had never seen that on his brother before, and it brought a smile to his face before turning to Jen.

"You okay?" He asked, losing all traces of flirtation.

"Y-yeah." Jen gulped and nodded, looking around the room, her eyes shooting side to side. "What will happen to him?"

Doug glanced over his shoulder where the man was being read his rights. The ski mask was gone. He turned back to Jen. "He pleads guilty to all accounts and he'll go to jail."

"Good." Jen spat.

"Jen?" Dawson stood in the entrace to the room. "What's going on?" He asked worriedly, looking around the room at the man, the cops, Doug and Jen, Pacey and Joey, and back to Jen. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm alright." Jen reached out slowly to him, and they wrapped their arms around each other. Doug and the other officers left with the man. Doug, however, threw one last look into the room, where the two girls were getting comfort from their significant others. Doug smiled slightly and left.

"You alright?" Pacey asked Joey later that night. They were laying in the same bed, facing each other. Pacey's arm was between them, and Joey was running her fingers lightly over it, up and down along the length of his arm.

"Thanks to you." Joey smiled slightly, looking up at him with her dark eyes. "I was scared when you started saying that you didn't care about me to the guy." Her eyes looked sad. "But I knew you didn't mean it when our eyes met."

"Oh Jo..." Pacey put the arm between them around her, drawing her as close to him as possible. "You should have known the second the words came out of my mouth. I'll always love you, and care about you. Always. I swear. You're the first thing on my mind when I wake up, and the last thing on my mind when I go to sleep. And you're on my mind most of the rest of the day." He kissed her forehead gently.

"I love you so much Pacey." Joey's eyes glistened in the moonlight with unshed tears as she pulled back to look at him. She had a loving smile on her face as the back of her hand gently stroked his cheek. "So much."

Pacey kissed her lightly, lingeringly, and then drew her back into his arms. They fell asleep like that.

"We still don't know who called us." Jen pointed out. She and Dawson were sitting on the couch together. Jen curled up next to Dawson and her arms wrapped around his waist. His arms were around her as well.

Joey and Pacey were sitting in a recliner that was down. Pacey was sitting straight forward indian style. Joey was on his lap sideways, sitting indian style as well. He absently stroked her hair and twirled it between his fingers while she leaned her side against his chest and her head against the back of the chair.

"That's true." Joey sighed, looking upwards. "We probably won't ever find out either."

"We've got to find out." Jen shook her head in slight annoyance and anger. "Those calls were really creepy."

"Really creepy." Joey repeated softly. Pacey glanced at her and kissed her cheek. It felt like a breath of much needed fresh air after being in a smoke house. Joey smiled and leaned her head against his.

Jen sighed and picked up the remote for the tv. She clicked it on to the news.

"Gail Leery reporting. It has just been confirmed that a Capeside High student, Clifford Ford* is the dead body found behind the high school. He was brutally stabbed several times, hung by his neck from a tree limb, and the skin was removed from his face." Dawson's mother sounded, and looked, like she was trying not to cry or throw up. "There are as of yet no leads but," She paused and held up the same mask used in Scream. "This was found covering the boys' face."

As Gail began interviewing people, the four teens exchanged looks. Joey looked blank as she turned to glance at Pacey, and then to Jen.

Jen's phone rang. Jen jumped and sprung forward to the table in front of them and spoke into the phone. "Jen."

"Jennifer, it's your grandmother."

Jen relaxed, as did the rest of the occupants in the room. "Yeah Grams?"

"Jennifer I was just wondering how you were."

"I'm fine Grams. How are you?"

"I'm fine." Jen's grandmother sighed. "When are you going to come home Jennifer?"

"I am home Grams." Jen sighed as well. "I've got to go."

"Goodbye Jennifer."

"Bye." Jen clicked the end button and put the phone down. "She can get really annoying."

"Yeah well-" Dawson broke off as the phone rang again. Jen snatched it. "What Grams?!"

"Hello Jennifer."

Jen stopped. She actually felt her heart skip a beath. "Who is this?" She demanded, breathing hard. Dawson, Joey, and Pacey all leaned forward a bit, scared.

"It's Billy boy."

"What...?"

"And Stewy."

"Oh my god."

"And Mrs. Loomis."

"Stop."

"And guess what Jen?"

"What?" Jen's voice shook.

"I killed Cliffy boy."

"You bastard."

"Oh come on Jen. You didn't really like him."

"Yes I did but that doesn't matter!" Jen snapped.

"Can you please tell Joey that her science teacher isn't dead?"

"You lying piece of-" Jen broke off as the phone was yanked away from her.

"Who the hell is this?" Dawson demanded angrily.

"Hey Dawson. You really wanna know?"

"Yes!"

"It's Bob. You know. The guy your mom is-"

Dawson allowed him to finish the bad word, and then his jaw dropped. "Go to hell!"

"Too late."

"What do you want?"

"To destroy the four of you one by one."

"Why?"

"Well you're always together and you make me ill."

"That's a really lousy reason."

"Can you tell Joey to get off of Pacey's lap? She's making me want to throw up."

Dawson sat up straight, looking around out the window. "You can see us?" He asked in disbelief.

"Maybe." The person snickered. "Maybe not."

"I'm hanging up now."

"Then one of you will die."

"Did you kill Cliff?"

"Yes. He made a wonderful little gurgling sound."

"That's sick."

"Is it? Is it really Dawson?"

Dawson hung up the phone in answer. He turned to his friends, hesitated, then dialed a number.

Joey was being blinded by the blue and red lights. She felt surreal. The only thing that felt grounded, that felt like anything, was Pacey's comforting presense right next to her, and their hands entertwined together.

The four teens were sitting outside on the front step being questioned. There were police cars everywhere, and police officers asking questions, checking out the house, and trying to trace the cell phone caller.

"I'd definitely say we have a copy cat." One officer remarked to another.

"Definitely." The other officer agreed.

"Sidney, Tatem, Stewy, and Randy." Dawson said softly. His friends all looked at him in surprise.

"Think about it guys." Dawson pointed out, getting into his idea. "Jo, you're Sidney. Jen, you're Tatem. Pacey, you're Stew, and I'm Randy."

His friends thought about it for a second, until Pacey nodded and spoke. "You're right D." He said, realization kicking in. "But why us?"

"Well," Dawson began slowly. "Think about it. Joey is obviously Sidney for many reasons. Reason number one: The dark hair. Reason number two: Her father is in jail, her mother is dead. Sidney's father was always away on business and she watched her mother die. Just like Jo." Joey's hand on Pacey's tightened. He kissed her cheek sweetly and turned back to Dawson. "Reason number three: Nothing personal Jo, but you were both outcasts." Dawson looked at them.

"Jen is Tatum because of the blond hair. She's got the same type of figure, and she is Sidney's friend. Joey's friend.

"Pacey is Stu because he's the wild and crazy one. He, however, can't be the killer.

"And I'm Randy because I'm the movie freak who can predict the endings and critique everything."

"Dawson, it sounds like we're in for a lot of trouble if you're theory-" Jen broke off as something in the darkness caught her eye. She stood up, her friends staring worriedly at her and then into the shadows.

Someone stepped out of the darkness and the kids sighed with relief. Deputy Doug, however, looked scared.

"Hello Dougy." Pacey sneered. "What can I do for you, and if you say give up my girlfriend than I'm going to have to pull your gun on you."

"Look, Pace, that's not why I'm here so just shut up." Doug exhaled deeply, pursed his lips, and addressed the four. "There's a safe house, about 54 miles away. We want to move you there."

They stared at him. "And let me guess," Pacey began, mockingly conversational. "We don't really have a choice if we want to go or not."

"Look at it this way, little bro," Doug snarled. "If you don't go, then your girlfriend is going to get her head chopped off, and it's going to be your fault."

Joey released Pacey's hand, stood up on the step so she faced eye to eye with him, pulled back her fist, and punched.

Doug went flying backwards, landing on his back and making pained sounds. Other officers swarmed around him, leaving Joey to sit back down next to Pacey and glare at his older brother.

One officer stood in front of Joey, and she stood back up, prepared to be arrested or whatever else might have come.

"We have been meaning to do that for a long time." The officer grinned at her. "Good going."

Joey smiled slightly and sat back down. Then, when Doug looked back at them angrily, she put on her most confident smile and kissed his younger brother with everything she had.

Pacey, for his part, had emencely enjoyed his girlfriend kicking the crap out of the gay jerk, but he had to admit that he enjoyed the kiss even more.

Joey had remained silent through the entire thing.

"Hey." Jen tried to smile when Joey opened the door to her room in the safe house. "Are you okay?"

Joey looked down at the carpet for a second, then let Jen in. Pacey was asleep on the bed, looking troubled even when he wasn't awake.

Joey gazed at him for several minutes, feeling saddened that there was nothing she could do to make it better for him.

"Jo, you haven't said a word for three days." Jen said softly. "Why not?"

Joey shrugged miserably and looked out the window.

"We aren't going to push you, but when you do want to talk, we'll be there alright?"

Joey hesitated for a second, them smiled and hugged Jen. Jen had tears in her eyes when she pulled back and left the room.

Joey went over to the bed where Pacey lay and sat down next to him, tucking her legs to the side and putting one arm over his stomach to prop herself up. She stared at him for a long time, until finally she smiled and kissed his forehead for several seconds.

"I love you." Joey whispered, a tear running down her cheek. She laid down next to him and closed her eyes.

Pacey's eyes flew open, a small smile on his face. He closed his eyes and went back to sleep, only this time, with a smile.

"Jen?" Joey asked groggily as she picked up the phone.

"Hello Josephine."

"Oh my god." Joey sat up quickly, causing Pacey to run and get the guards. "Where are you?"

"Uh uh Josephine. The questions is, who am I."

"Okay. Then who are you?"

"I'm not going to tell you..."

"So then why did you bring it up?"

"Do you love him Joey?"

"What?!" Joey exclaimed, looking confused.

"PACEY. DO YOU LOVE HIM?"

"That's none of your business you bastard!"

"Answer the question or he'll be my next victim." The person snarled angrily.

Joey closed her eyes. "Yes. Yes I love him."

The person made a sound of surprise. "Really. I never would have thought."

"Why not?" Joey demanded.

"Because you loved Dawson for so long."

"What?!"

"Oh, I know who you are Joey." The person sounded amused. "I will always know who you are."

"What are you talking about? Who are you?!"

"Pacey knows me, sweets. He knows who I am." The person laughed. "Just not that I'm doing this." They hung up.

Joey slowly put down the phone and turned around on the bed to face Pacey and the guards. "He says that you know him, but not that he's the one."

Pacey looked confused. "I know a lot of people." He protested, bewildered. "That means nothing."

Joey looked at his innocent but worried face for a second. "Pacey?" She took a deep breath. "I love you."

Pacey smiled then, a deep smile that made her warm from the inside to the outside. "I love you Jo."

She had spoken.

Joey opened her eyes to the sun filtering through the window and turned her head. She smiled at the chest right next to her face and felt content at the feeling of security that went with the arms around her.

Joey kissed Pacey until he was awake enough to respond, but not awake enough to be awake.

Joey smiled against Pacey's lips and pulled away to look at his face, which adorned a smile.

She carefully detached herself from his embrace and got out of bed, going over to the door to pick up the paper-they slid it under the door. Joey stopped and stared at the front page. Somehow she managed to stumble to the bed and sit down on it, shake Pacey awake fully, and then point to the paper.

"Two teens killed in Capeside." Pacey read, sounding slightly groggy but definitely upset. "They were cut into shreads," He swallowed hard. "And pieces of them were hung by tree limbs on the yard of-" He broke off, dropped the paper, and grabbed for the phone.

"Mom?" Pacey asked into the phone. "Mom, are you guys okay?"

"Pacey! Oh god! Pacey!" His mother was in tears she was so relieved. "Thank god you're alright!"

"Mom! Mom are you okay? I just read the paper." Pacey's eyes clenched shut. "Why are you still there?"

"We've got the lines being tapped honey. We're-we're all alright. Did-did you know the students?"

"Um," Pacey fumbled for the paper, glancing worriedly at Joey who was staring at nothing on the ground. He scanned for their names. "Abby and Mary Beth. Oh god!"

"You knew them honey?"

"Yeah." Pacey's eyes were shut tight with pain. "Yeah I did." He reached out for Joey, who numbly went into his arms. "I should go Mom. I'll call you later."

"Okay sweetie. I love you."

"I love you too." Pacey hung up the phone and held onto Joey who ran her fingers through his hair as he tried not to cry.

"Dawson? Are you okay?" Joey asked Dawson, who was staring at the ground without uttering a word. His friends were all worried about him. Jen and Pacey left, Pacey squeezing Joey's hand once before leaving her alone in Dawson's room with him.

"Mary Beth-" His voice cracked with emotion. He shook his head and looked down.

"I know Dawson." Joey squeezed his hand, sitting across from him on the bed. "But we'll get to the bottom of this. I swear to you, whoever this person is, he'll die slowly and painfully for each person he hurts."

"I hope you can keep that promise Jo." Dawson said, looking up at her. "I really hope that you can." He took a deep breath. "Other wise we're all going to die."

Joey screamed as she watched the knife enter into Pacey. Again and again the boy she loved was stabbed, blood staining him, and cries emmitting from his lips she never wanted to hear from anyone except the killer.

The killer, in the trade mark ghost costume, turned it's face to her after Pacey was dead. Joey glanced at the person in fear and horror, tears and blood staining her cheeks. Pacey was dead. She thought with a sob. He's never coming back. He's gone.

Joey looked back at the killer, who was slowly coming towards her. Then, it lunged at her, pinning her to the ground before she had a chance to react. She screamed and kicked, but it was no use. The knife dangled high above her, ready to be brought down. Then she heard it.

The laugh.

The killer was laughing. Joey stared in horror as the knife was brought down to herself.

"Joey!" Pacey shouted loudly.

Joey sat bolt up in bed, drenched in a cold sweat. Her hair was matted down to her back and shoulders, and she was breathing hard, tears streaming down her face.

Joey turned to look at Pacey, gave a cry of surprise and relief, and threw her arms around him.

"He-he killed you, and-and he was going to kill me too!" Joey sobbed.

Pacey's eyes closed as he was given the reason for her crying and screaming in her sleep. His arms tightened around her as he pulled her sideways onto his lap and gently soothed her.

"You're fine Jo. I'm fine. You and I are both fine." He whispered sweetly, tenderly. "Nothing is ever going to touch you. I swear. I'll die first."

"I love you Pacey." He heard through her sobs.

"I love you too Jo." Pacey lingeringly kissed her neck, then pulled back to look at her. "You want something to drink? Water maybe?"

"And a towel?" She asked meekly.

Pacey smiled. "Right away darlin'." He kissed her cheek and rolled out of bed.

Joey watched him go, smiling at the sight of him shirtless in only a pair of shorts. He was such a good looking, great guy. How she got so lucky, she didn't know.

Pacey came back with the towel thrown over his shoulder and a bottle of water in his hand. He flashed a grin at her as she watched him walk over, hand her the water, take the towel, sit behind her, and begin rubbing her off.

Joey smiled and reveled in the feel of him. She turned around, smiling, and put her elbows on his knees, looking up at him. "I love you." She told him sweetly. "I will always love you."

"I love you. I've always loved you, and I always will." He kissed her forehead. "That I swear to you."

Joey's eyes filled with tears as he spoke. She put the water bottle next to the bed, leaned up, and kissed him.

Pacey wrapped his arms around her, slid down even with her, and smiled in their kiss as she put her arms around him.

"You are perfect Josephine." Pacey whispered lovingly, pulling back to look at her.

That only caused more tears to fill her eyes and her to simply kiss him again.

"Hello Josephine."

"God damn it! How the hell do you keep finding me?!" Joey shouted angrily. She looked around nervously for Pacey, but he was with Dawson and Jen.

"I'm good."

"You're a bastard."

"I wouldn't say that Joey. You might make me angry and I'll take your boy toy."

"Don't touch him."

"Why not? You certainly don't want him."

"What the hell are you talking about?!"

"Tell me, Joey, have you slept with him?"

"That's none of you business your creep!"

"Answer the question or I'll kill him right now."

Joey took a deep breath. "No."

"I didn't think so. Why not?"

"Because I won't until I'm married. I have morals that include not killing people!"

"Yes, but these people deserve it." He laughed. "Maybe you shouldn't trust Pacey as much as you do Joey. Trusting people so completely only leaves them powerful and you weak."

"You bastard. I will always trust Pacey, no matter how hard you try to pit me against him."

"I don't have to try darlin'." The person snickered. Joey looked slightly startled. Pacey was the only one in her entire life who called her darlin'. Joey quickly shook the thought from her head.

"What do you want?!"

"To have you and then kill your friends while you watch." The person laughed. "Again love, don't trust anyone as completely as you trust Pacey."

"I will always trust Pacey. I will always love Pacey, and nothing you say will ever change that!"

"Oh no?" He laughed mockingly. "'I swear to God I didn't abandon you. I have to work a little bit later than I planned... I came back and wrote this on my lunch break. I'll bring home dinner. (Do I sound like we're married or what?) = ) Anyway, I'll see you around 7.'" He laughed again. "Never trust someone completely."

He hung up.

Joey stared at the ground for a long time, trying to remember where she'd heard that from. Just as it was about to click, the phone began its warning that it was off the hook. She quickly put it back on the cradle and thought again, her pulse racing. She knew it was familiar. But from what?

Right after she'd been raped. In the note Pacey had left on the refridgerator.

Joey had to sit down because she was shaking so hard. Her breathing was ragid and difficult to get. Her legs were like jelly, unable to support her. Her heart pounded loudly, but she couldn't hear it. She was staring at the carpet but she didn't see it.

What was Pacey hiding?

"Jo!" Pacey carrolled as his girlfriend came into Dawson's room. Dawson and Jen were playing a game of cards while Pacey watched tv. He clicked it off and sat up. "How was the shower?"

Joey didn't say anything for a second as she stared at him, wondering if he could ever betray her. She knew he wouldn't. He couldn't.

Could he?

Joey's jaw finally worked for an answer. "F-fine." She stuttered. Instead of going over to kiss Pacey, she went over to Dawson and Jen and sat with them. "What are you guys playing?" She asked, desperate to stay away from Pacey.

Pacey and Dawson exchanged a bewildered look; Pacey's more hurt than anything. Jen was telling Joey and gathering the cards to deal her in.

"You wanna play,Pace?" Jen asked conversationally to Pacey, who was still looking confused.

"Uh... No thanks." Pacey put his feet back up on the bed and turned on the tv, thinking hard.

As Joey watched, however, his eyes narrowed and his face hardened angrily. She shuddered, thinking that that face which she had kissed looked like that because of her. She was frightened.

"Jo? You okay?" Dawson asked.

The room waited for her answer. Joey looked at Dawson, Jen, and then Pacey. Their eyes met, and something flickered over Pacey's eyes. Joey was scared then. Her pulse raced. She turned to Dawson, opened her mouth to speak, then bolted for the door.

Jen, Pacey, and Dawson all watched with wide eyes as she ran out and the door slammed behind her. They exchanged a look, and a second later Pacey was going after her.

"Joey open the door!" Pacey demanded, pounding his fist against it. Jen and Dawson were standing in the doorway to his room, watching the boy across the hall try to break down the door.

"No!" Joey shouted back, tears streaming down her face. Outside the sun was dying.

"Josephine Potter open the damn door now!" Pacey shouted furiously. He was more worried than anything.

"Go away!" Joey yelled.

"No! Damn it Joey, let me-" Pacey flew into the room as the guard, unnoticed, unlocked the door with the key. "Ow."

Pacey winced and regained his footing. He turned to Joey, who was backed against the wall in fear.

"Joey? Are you okay?" Pacey looked near tears as he walked closer to her. She winced and backed up farther.

Pacey picked that up immediately and stopped moving. "Joey? What is the matter with you?"

"Nothing." Joey managed to get out. "Just leave me alone."

"Joey?" Pacey's eyes glistened with tears. "What's wrong? Why won't you tell me?"

"Leave." Joey whispered.

"Okay darlin'." Pacey shook his head and walked out of the room.

Joey emmitted a cry and sank to the ground.
