* Rurouni Kenshin Manga Translation *
* Volume three: The reason to act *
* Chapter twenty-two: Break through Kanryuu's setting *

(Kenshin walks)

Kanryuu: Do... Do not joke thus... to fall into the bad books of the
legendary Hitokiri Battousai, wouldst it be better called diggin thy own
grave... !

Aoshi: Say not those. The Oniwabanshuu still lives.

(Kenshin pauses)

Sano: !

Yahiko: What is't? Kenshin.

(Kenshin switches view upstairs)

Kanryuu: WA!

Kenshin: KANRYUU! This unworthy one hast come to pay mine respects, Takeda
Kanryuu.

Kanryuu: Ummm...

Kenshin: Megumi-dono to be brought down on the double!

Kanryuu: ... - !

(Kenshin stares)

Kanryuu: He... hehe! Heheheh!

Yahiko: What be the matter?

Sano: He has been scared off his rockers?

Kanryuu: Heheheh! HAHAHAH!

Aoshi: ...

Kanryuu: How very tough of you! Without the strength of a candle's blowing
out, fifty of my men brought down to the floor.

(he gives a big clap)

Kanryuu: No wonder thou art the Hitokiri of the legends, Himura Battousai!

(Kenshin narrows his eyes)

Sano: By way of't, this fellow... has made the Oniwabanshuu sent for the
clarity behind Kenshin's history...

Kanryuu: Beautiful! A kenjutsu so exquisite I admire! Enter the
Oniwabanshuu! Enter me and I shall be invincible thereafter! Fifty. Fifty
times the salary of mine private army! How is't! Director, general of mine
private army!

Kenshin: Thou art... coming or not to the ground?

Kanryuu: ... !!

(Kenshin takes a step)

Kanryuu: I... I shall pay a hundred times!

(Kenshin takes another step)

Kanryuu: Two... Two hundred times!

Aoshi: Have you regarded it not! To bribe with monetary contributions will
not be of high effect. Have I mentioned it earlier, that Himura Battousai be
a man moved not for gains and losses.

Kanryuu: ... *All right then!* I hath understood! My defeat I admit! I shall
deliver mine promise to bring set forth Takani Megumi!

Kenshin, Sano and Yahiko: !?

Kanryuu: However so, you must give an hour of preparation for me! One more
hour, and I shall fulfill my promise of deliverence! Please therefore
adjourn elsewhere for rest now!

Sano: Meaning what! Give on a basis why we should give our trust in an empty
coconut like you!

Yahiko: !

(Kenshin has sheathed his sword)

Yahiko: (as Kenshin walks away) Kenshin! One more wait here! However well
negotiations must go, a regulation shouldst be observed! Hey!

Kanryuu: *Very well... ! Be there one hour indeed, the secret of the
Spider's Web shall see light soon, and by then, the woman shall be of a
white elephant's worth to I myself! I do not believe how air-tight her lips
be sealed!

(Kenshin stops in front of a road side lamp)

Kanryuu: ?

(Kenshin reverses the hilt of the sheath and pops out an inch of his sword,
sharp side out)

Kanryuu: !!

(he draws his sword in a blinding flash and hacks through the bulk of the
lamp)

Sano, Yahiko, Kanryuu and Aoshi: (shocked reactions)

(the separated lamp is elevated)

Kanryuu: WAAAA AAA A A AAAAH!

(and it slams into the window beside Kanryuu)

Kenshin: One hour shall be all needed to reach thy side! Have that piece of
armour for thy cowardly heart before then!

Aoshi: Adding fuel to fire by unleashing a cunning plot, an action-roused-by
-emotion man indeed he.

Hanya: O... Okashira! The installments of the Oniwabanshuu - hath been fully
arranged.

Aoshi: The staircase adjoining the hall and the bend of the hall itself, my
right and left hand man shall guard discreetly. Whilst I myself shall await
in the Dance Hall where the steps leads from the 1st floor.

Kanryuu: Then listen up! The rubbish of Beshimi and Hyottoko like shall not
be once again utlized by I myself! They who swallow an enormous income and
yet prove to be of no use, I shall not let off lightly!

Aoshi: You say 'not let off lightly', to be of what meaning?

Kanryuu: !

Aoshi: (moves away from wall he's been leaning on) You be clear about this!
Oniwabanshuu's management, lies not wholly in your hands!

(grabs Kanryuu by the collar)

Aoshi: Oniwabanshuu art mine belongings! I shall forbid the slimmest details
of looking down upon'm!

Kanryuu: ...

Aoshi: To make clear, their target is aimed for merely Takani Megumi, and I
shall lock this woman up on the watchroom of the third floor, you do keep
all the unnecessaries for later and clear your accounts for now!

(at the watchroom)

Megumi: ... Wuuu... ummm...

(her eyes snap open and she sits up)

Megumi: !

Aoshi: You have awakened?

Megumi: Here... here be... the watchroom? How I...

Aoshi: Those fellows of Kamiya Dojo has come forth for you!

Megumi: You lie...

Aoshi: Whatever reasons do I lie for? The entire private army has been razed
to the ground.

Megumi: ... How is't possible! I left begotten of my own free will,
wherefore do they...

(she stares at Aoshi)

Megumi: (tears in her eyes) ... wherefore art the boys of Kamiya Dojo so
hence foolish...

(a short knife is thrown on the floor)

Megumi: !

Aoshi: Your knife, returned. You do best without bearing hopes of immense,
for they would never arrive breathing here. In one full hour, freedom is not
what awaits, but a grilling interrogation of Kanryuu. A painful life or a
peaceful death, is your right to be chosen for.

(Aoshi stares)

Aoshi: Whatever money Kanryuu digs out of all these opium trading is not
what concerns us. And what we Oniwabanshuu crave for be only battle. Mine
days of worthy battles are but not numbered in these filthy, stinking era
and place, yet I hath earned the strongest enemy in history by your great
attraction.

(picture of Megumi's knife)

Aoshi: And this return be my mere thanks.

(Megumi stares in fright)

Aoshi: (at the door) I do sympathise your misfortunate fate,

(closes the door)

Aoshi: but that do not lie within my interfering for now.

(Sano, Yahiko and Kenshin at the front door)

Yahiko: The rest of the opponent mayst be the Oniwabanshuu only, while we
can but laze our attention! LET US GO FORTH!

Sano: What authority do you render!

(as Yahiko pounces on Sano's head, the three of them break into the house at
the same time)

Sano, Kenshin and Yahiko: !!

Kenshin: How more shocking couldst things be... with skills thou hast, to be
entrusted the base level defence!

Hanya: (lets out a steam of air) I have but not mentioned, that one day, the
battle of win or loss between us a fact to be!
