There's some irony for you. I never seem to be able to find what I'm looking for, and these guys keep finding important stuff that they're not looking for. I'm told that the average person spend 6 weeks every year looking for thing that we have misplaced at work - files, pens, disks, coffee cups and the like. We probably spend as much time looking for lost things around the house. When we finally find the item, it's often in the strangest of places. Sometimes I even forget what I'm looking for half way through my search. Though I must add, being forgetful does have some advantages. If you can't remember your unpaid bills, you have a lot more spending money, and if you keep forgetting people's names, you always have a whole bunch of new friendships to make and enjoy.
Jesus told a story about a man who discovered treasure hidden in a field. This treasure was so important to him that he covered it up again, went and sold everything he had, and returned to buy that piece of land. Likewise, we are encouraged to continually think about things that are truly precious and lasting and to focus on such things. Take time to consider the life and example of Jesus, our great treasure.
