Here is the the Story of the 3 little Christians
There one was three little Christians, who decided to build their lives
The first Christian had a Christian life as strong as spaghetti
The second Christian had a Christian life as strong as wood
The third Christian had a Christian life as strong as bricks
One day the devil came along
He said to the first little Christian, who was gazing into his new
age crystals looking for inspiration in the park next to the church ‘You’re
not a very good Christian are you, god will never forgive you for this’.
And the devil huffed and he puffed, and the little Christian (who hadn’t
remembered that the Bible says there is forgiveness of sins in the name
of Jesus), believed the devils lie, and his faith got all blown in. His
Christian life was only as strong as spaghetti. So he sat on the foundation
where he had built his life
The devil came across the second little Christian, who was on the net in a Christian chat room at the time. ‘You must have doubts about your faith’ the devil said to the Christian. ‘No’ said the Christian. ‘Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your faith in’ Later that night, the second little Christian’s ISP went bankrupt and shut down, which was a real shame given that he had purchased 200 hours time in advance, and got all his Christian input off the Internet. So his faith was in ruin. So, he just sat on the foundation where he had built his life.
The devil came up to the third little Christian. ‘Little Christian’
said the devil. I can see that you are a very good Christian, but has God
done anything for you? The Christian replied ‘for God so loved the world
that he gave his only son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish,
but have eternal life’.
The devil got angry when people used the word of God against him, so
not to be put off, he huffed and he puffed - and got nowhere.
So he tried to be smart ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the
Glory of God’.
The Christian thought for a while, then said, quoting 1 John ‘if we
confess our sins to God, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our
sins and purify us.
Meanwhile, the two Christians were wishing that their Christian lives
were as strong as bricks, saw that it was good to have a strong faith,
and decided to, with God’s strength, go to the parish house party/ bible
study / or youth group, so that they could grow and be a stronger more
solid Christian faith.
This is the story of 3 people with 3 different levels of faith. It appears that 1 survive while the other 2 don’t. But unlike the children’s story this is based on, the two don’t totally loose out. What does our passage have to say about these people
In verses 10 -12 Paul, the church leader, teaches people about God and lays a foundation for them to grow., which is Jesus Christ. From this, people build their lives as they see fit.
In verse 13 we come to the time of judgment. Peoples lives will be shown for what they are. Now some Christian will have built well, while others might not have. If they have built well, there is a reward (verse 14). However, if a Christians life has not been built well, they will be saved, but only because of their foundation. It’s sort of like a burning house. You can escape from it, but there isn’t much of the house left a burning house. Why is this so. Verse 15. As a Christian you are in Christ and God will recognise this. Your life, by its very nature, show’s Christ - therefore it is of extreme value and is worth saving. If we are faithful to him and remain in him, then he is faithful to us.
I think is it easier for God to be faithful than for us to be faithful - otherwise, if we are a Christian and we sin - that would be the end of it.
We (as a people) are God’s temple. You yourself (plural) are Gods
temple. God dwells in you - therefore we are sacred - above the ordinary,
above all other creatures in the universe. When everything is burned by
fire - being in Christ you will remain. As the old hymn call us;
‘My Hope is built on nothing less,
but Jesus’ blood and righteousness,
no merit of my own I claim,
but wholly trust in Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand’
I ask you tonight; What is important to You?
We build our lives on lots of things - education, good job, nice house
& family, and many of these things are good. But, our lives rightfully
belong to God - many of these things are worthless in Gods eyes. What you
do regarding your education is important, but in the end, a uni degree
will not save you. God made you, god loves you, and god has a claim on
your life - you belong to him. You might not like this. You might not like
your parents, but in the same way, you belong to them - they have a claim
over you. They will always be your parents, and there’s not a thing you
can do about it that will change this fact (though society, in its ultimate
patheticness and desire to buck God’s plans, allows people to divorce their
parents)
God, who is better than the perfect parent, calls us to belong to him. We rightfully belong to our creator who loves us and sustains us. Whatever comes in your life, when your hope is in Christ, though things may get rough, though life may get on top of you at times, while you continue to have Jesus Christ as your life’s foundation, he will remain faithful to you, and you will come out of all your experiences, will a relationship with your creator that is solid, trustworthy and everlasting.
We rightfully you belong to God.
