A condensed version of 1 Corinthians 15

I often wondered what conversations were like in the early church when they were having problems. Like, did they have some of those silly people who carry on in my church who don't appear to know which way is up, and how much of the bible is directed to those people. Verse 33 convinced me these people exist. Adapt as necessary for your situation.

Cast: Host (preferably the preacher for the night), person 1 (an idiot, make them look different), person 2 & 3 (normal sensible people in the church)

Host: Welcome Tonight, we’re going to think about life and death. I’ll ask our special guest tonight, Doctor Ivgotem noidea, professor of inward spiritual insights at the University of Corrinth. Doctor, we’ve talked a lot about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his raising to life. I ask you, do you believe that after we die, we will be raised to life.

Person 1 (Doctor Ivgotem Noidea):  No, I don’t think so.

Host: Well, what do you think of that

Person 2: Well I find Person 1’s attitude attitude very strange. He clearly has no idea

Host: Please explain.

Person 2: If there is no resurrection of the dead, then even Jesus Christ has not been raised. . .

Person 1: Well . . .

Person 2: And if Christ has not been raised, then Dave’s preaching is useless . . .

Person 1: You can say that again . .

Person 2: And so is your faith (looking at person 1)

Person 1: Oh.

Person 2: Furthermore, we are really lying about God, because we go around telling people that he raised Christ from death.

Person 1: Well, if you put it in those terms

Person 2: you can’t have one without the other.

Person 1: but you’ve got to understand the underlying spiritual metaphor behind it all.

Person 2: Rubbish. If what you say is true, and there is no resurrection, then your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.

Person 1: It’s all a matter of the deeper inner spiritual esoteric meaning.

Person 2: Nonsense. If your hope for Christ is only in this life, then you are to be pitied more than all men.

Person 1: What, even those strange people who play Australian Rules

Person 2: Yes, you are even more pitiful than them.

Host: Hmm. Moving right along. Person 3 can I bring you in now. You believe that Christ has been raised from the dead. How will it work for us

Person 3: Well, all will be made alive. Life came through Christ, so he will be raised first. Then when he comes, those who belong to him will be raised.

Host: Will it end there?

Person 2: No, then all the enemies of God will be destroyed

Person 1: All I can say is ‘let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we diet . . . sorry I mean die’

Person 3: Do we really need this idiot here. Aren’t we just acting out the passage of 1 Corinthians chapter 15.

Host: Yes. There there appears to be an idiot there as well. At this stage the writer of the letter states that we should not be fooled and that ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’ Obviously a reference to avoid idiots here like our good doctor.   Moving right along, Doctor do you have a question.

Person 1: Yes. If you all think you’re so smart. How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?

Person 3: That’s a silly question. When you sow a seed, you do not sow the body in the form that it will be, but just the seed. Likewise, there are earthly bodies, and there are heavenly bodies.

Person 2: Yes. That’s so true. The bodies we have aren’t that fantastic now. They will perish. Which is a good thing. Do you really want to spend eternity with you current body, why (pointing to someone) you wouldn’t want to go to heaven with a nose like that would you?

Host: Getting back to it, what we are saying is that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God

Person 1: (quietly, knowing that no one agrees with him anyway) Can’t see why not

Person 3: At that final day, we will be given bodies that will not perish. It will happen in a flash.

Person 2: Yes. Death will be swallowed up in victory.

Host: Thanks for that everybody. So from our discussions here in 1 Corinthians 15 we say

All: That was the word of the Lord

Host: Thanks be to god
