The Kimball House offers individual and group tours in addition to welcoming approximately 1,000 area elementary school students each year. A wide variety of craft classes for adults and children are also held in the Museum.
Throughout the year, Kimball House is alive with special events and programs. In May the home plays host to many Preservation Month activities, but December is the month most anticipated by area citizens and visitors. In preparation for the Christmas Open House, the Candlelight Stroll, and Midnight at the Creek on New Year1s Eve, the home is resplendent in all its Victorian holiday finery.
The Historical Society sponsors topical programs on 3Special Sundays2 in conjunction with new exhibit openings. Each month Kimball House has a different focus for exhibits and events, and members of statewide organizations such as the Michigan Soldiers' Aid Society participate in bringing these events to life.
Calendar of Events
October 26: Victorian Haunting. There will be a funeral exhibit all month displaying some Victorian mourning traditions. The Haunting, on October 26, will include a funeral, complete with wailing widow and typical Victorian activities.
November 10: Living history event featuring the Michigan Soldiers' Aid Society portraying fiery suffragists and abolitionists. This month's focus will be women's suffragism and the abolition struggle. During this month, the Museum's collection of Sojourner Truth artifacts will be highlighted.
December: A Victorian Christmas will be featured this month, culminating in the Christmas Open House, the Candlelight Stroll, and Midnight at the Creek on New Year1s Eve. This month is the favorite of many area history enthusiasts.
