Spring Fever: Interlude

Telephone Conversations

"Buffy?"

"Wills!"

"How are you? How's Xander?"

"We're fine, we're both just fine."

"What's wrong, Buffy? Something happen?"

"No, no, no...no. Nothing. Why?"

"You sounded funny for a minute there. Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm fine. So tell me...what's going on in merry old England?"

"Giles figured out you swiped his shirt. His mom heard him yelling and has decided that she needs to meet you."

"So what's she like?"

"Adelaide?"

"Her name is Adelaide?"

"Yeah. Pretty corny, hey? Any how, Giles' dad has decided that I'm going to be apprenticed to the Watchers. Here's the thing though -- he doesn't want me to stay with Giles!"

"Why not? Wills, we need you. No one could replace you!"

"I wouldn't worry. Adelaide wants to teach me but Bryan -- that's Giles' dad -- would rather die than send me with her. So I'm going to work with Giles until I graduate, then I'll probably come back here. I'm coming back alone for a few weeks in the summer, too! Isn't it exciting?!"

"That sounds really cool, Willow."

"It sure does. I'm so excited!"

"So have you heard from Oz, yet?"

"Wait, there's someone at the door. Can you hang on?"

"Sure."

[door opening, muffled conversation, hasty phone pickup]

"Buffy?"

"Hey, Giles!"

"Where's my shirt?"

"I'm wearing it right now."

[grumble]

"Giles, think of it this way, I'm saving you from a big, nasty fashion faux pas. Have you looked, I mean really looked, at this shirt. It's lima bean green, for god's sake! What are you thinking, man!!"

"I've had that shirt since I was twenty-five. I want it back."

"You want me to ship it overnight? I won't be able to wash it, but--"

"Just hang on to it until I get back, dammit!"

"Hey, no problem! Geez, defensive much?"

"How's Xander?"

"Should I pretend you care?"

"Please, do."

"He was great the last time I saw him."

"Good. No vampiric activity?"

"I've been good, Giles. I patrol every night. Not much going on here, really. I mean, besides the all-night parties we're having at your apartment --"

[groan]

"I'm kidding!! Geez..."

"Buffy, you take care of yourself."

"You, too, Giles, I mean it."

"I know. I'm giving you back to Willow now."

"Bye, Giles."

"Goodbye, Buffy."

[more muffled conversation, a door closing]

"Am I wrong, or did Giles just let himself into your room?"

"Yeah, why?"

"I knew it!! I knew there was something you weren't telling me! Willow and Giles sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"

"Buffy! Come on!"

"Xander?"

"Hey, Cordy...what's up?"

"Not much. Just been hanging out."

"With Buffy?"

"No, with Amy. Of course with Buffy."

"What have you been doing?"

"Stuff. How are you and Oz?"

"Good. We're good."

"Good."

"I miss you, Xander."

"I miss you, too, Cordy."

"This is costing me a fortune. I've gotta go."

"Sure thing. Take care, Cordy."

"I will. You, too."

"Yeah. Bye."

"Bye."
