The Reality of Abortion
By Doris Ballard
It's too bad that the word "issue" has been coupled with the word "abortion." Once you brand something as an "issue" it becomes the property of those who are interested in politics ... or of activists who each have their "pet issues." It somehow reduces the entire idea to the realm of thought and debate. People who have a stomach for such things can then polarize into different camps, and snipe at each other with well chosen slogans.
Ask the survivors of a prison camp what they think of the "issue" of incarcerating innocent people and torturing them ... ask a rape victim what she thinks of the "issue" of rape ... you may find that these people don't take very kindly to the idea of filing any of these nightmares under the label "issue" - right between saving the green-eyed fruit fly and whether bass should be legal at 6 inches or at 6.25 inches ...
Abortion is not a mere political issue. It's not something that can be civilly and quietly batted back and forth between proponents and opponents like what kind of flowers to plant in the town square come spring. Abortion is murder.
Thinking people are outraged when they consider the Holocaust. Those who are aware of what's been happening in Africa are horrified to their depths that human beings could be so cruel to one another. Many of these same people, however, think nothing of the ongoing murder of silent innocent unborn human beings in quantities that dwarf the sum total of death statistics from all of the wars and genocides of the last century by multiple millions.
And then these same people are so naive as to wonder why children are murdering each other in schools ... why life seems so cheap ... why families are falling apart ... why there are so many young suicides ...
It doesn't take too many brain cells to realize that children who grow up with the tacit understanding that the only reason they're alive is because their timing happened to be "convenient" are going to have the idea that life has to be pretty cheap. They've been taught that the importance of life comes someplace after convenience, self control, financial status, personal comfort ...
Even our laws have a confusing double standard that young people can't help but see. In many places, children can't be given an aspirin without parental consent ... but they can be given an abortion? They can't attend the school dance without written permission from their parents, but they are allowed to murder their own unborn children without their parents ever even knowing?
Now, let's look a little more closely at the reasoning behind one of the most frequently heard pro-choice arguments today: the "I have a right to do whatever I want with my own body!" argument. Well, that's not quite true in a legal sense - for example, you don't have the right to do illegal drugs, and you don't even have the right to choose to not wear a seat belt! However, as far as being pregnant is concerned, it's an accurate argument. Outside of legalities, women do indeed have the right to do what they want with their own bodies. They have the right to choose to engage in behavior that shares in God's creation ... or to control themselves and choose to abstain. However, the children who are conceived have their very own DNA code, and although reliant on their mother's body for a relatively short time, they are not part of her body. If she wanted to exercise her right to do as she pleases with her own body, she should have done that way back before she got pregnant - by choosing to exercise self control. Onnce pregnant, there are (at least) two lives there, and so that argument is no longer even valid.
Women who are married to selfish slobs who can't control themselves and won't take no for an answer, or the poor women who are victims of rape, present some very difficult problems. Each of those problems is a subject in itself, and they are both beyond the scope of this little teaching. However, as far as a child being conceived under those sad circumstances - no matter how victimized these women are, they still have no right to, in their turn, victimize the little child in their womb. The child didn't choose to be conceived - and he can't very well pack his little bags and find a more welcoming home. Sad or not, convenient or not, the child is alive - and is endowed with the same right to life as the mother has.
Go ahead - fight for your little baby seals and youur rain forests, and murder your own children. Call yourself a civilized, educated society, and practice the fine art of murdering your "mistakes" rather than using self control to prevent them. Continue to sacrifice your children on the altar of your comfort and convenience. Continue to vote for leaders who fill your pockets - and allow women to empty their wombs through murder. Just keep it up, because ...
A day will come when you have to meet your Maker. Your disingenuous
arguments won't impress Him - and you'll stand naked and helpless before
Him. As naked and helpless as an unborn baby. Will He feel mercy for you
if you are unrepentant and haven't had mercy on the most helpless of all
of His creations? Or - if you don't believe in God, then here is another
way to look at it: what goes around, comes around. Murdering unborn babies
makes for real bad karma.
About the Above Pictures ...
TOP: This baby's head was found in a plastic trash bag outside an abortion mill in Houston. Bodies were found there in the spring and summer of 1987. On August 8, the abortionist denied that he or his staff had thrown babies' bodies out. But three days later, prolifers found bodies there again. The abortionist said that he disposed of bodies according to Texas law. This may be true; it is not clear that tossing babies' bodies out to be eaten by dogs, rats and mice was illegal.
MIDDLE: This baby's life was ended mid-way through pregnancy, by an abortionist at Canada's Winnipeg General Hospital, about 1970. The procedure used is saline, in which a concentrated salt solution was injected into the mother's womb. The baby breathed in and swallowed this poison. The salt also caused extreme pain as it burned off the outer layer of the child's skin, turning the baby red. According to one victim, "I had a saline abortion and felt my baby thrash inside me for over an hour." In addition to the health hazards to women, saline abortion has caused live births. The gasping baby is then left to die, or is disposed of in some other distasteful way.
BOTTOM: This black child was aborted at five months of development on 11 May 1987, at the Michigan Avenue Medical Center, 30 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, by the "D & E" (dilation and evacuation) method. By this "procedure" the abortionist used large forceps to crush the baby inside the mother's uterus and remove it in pieces. All human rights stem from the basic right to life. What happened to this American childs' rights? Can peace and justice truly exist under such conditions? Prolifers buried this child on 14 May 1987.
