Why you liked this book: Excellent read and full of detail

Comments:
This is second installment in the Masters of Rome series, the sequel to The First Man in Rome. This one is more about Sulla than Marius. It is as well written as the previous one. I hihgly recommend this book if you enjoy history and or fiction.

Why you liked this book: Less mystical, more down-to-earth view of Arthur

Comments:
To me the most interesting aspect of Arthur is not what legend credits him for doing, but the company he keeps. This is light on Lancelot and Gueinevere and Merlin, more into his childhood and youth.

Period in History, (i.e. The Roman Republic, The Rule of the Ptolemies, The Era of Emperors, etc.): Imperial Rome to present day
Brief description of the story (don't reveal the ending!!!): This is the story of Pandora the vampire. It covers her life as the Patrician daughter of a Roman Senator and covers how she received the "dark gift".
Why you liked this book: I enjoy novels with an ancient theme.

Comments:
Anne Rice paints a vivid picture of life in Imperial Rome. In this book, as in her others, she has a way of making you feel as though you were there, a part of the story. Pandora is a romantic story. She makes you feel for the vampire Pandora. A definite must read for all who enjoy reading about ancient culture and would enjoy a story that is out the usual.

Fiction or Non-fiction: Fiction (mystery)
Primary Location (i.e.,Egypt, Rome, Peru, etc.): England
Period in History, (i.e. The Roman Republic, The Rule of the Ptolemies, The Era of Emperors, etc.): Elizabethan
Brief description of the story (don't reveal the ending!!!): Players in an Elizabethan theater group encounter various murders and other mysteries as they go about the business of presenting their plays.
Why you liked this book: The characters are warm, funny and entertaining. The plots are rewarding, and the history is good.

Comments:
Edward Marston captures the spirit of Elizabethan England--rollicking, inquisitive, and a bit bawdy. The theater company, Lord Westfield's Men, is an accurate representation of theater life in Shakespeare's day.

Fiction or Non-fiction: Fiction
Primary Location (i.e.,Egypt, Rome, Peru, etc.): England
Period in History, (i.e. The Roman Republic, The Rule of the Ptolemies, The Era of Emperors, etc.): Reviewing the reign of Richard III
Brief description of the story (don't reveal the ending!!!): An incapacitated police inspector tries to enliven his hospital stay by doing historical research on the evil King Richard III only to discover Richard wasn't the evil incarnate as depict d by Shakespeare and other historians.
Why you liked this book: This is a well-written mystery and you come away loving Richard III. Can you image that?

Comments:
This book is based on fact, but facts can be viewed in the eye of the beholder. Ms. Tey gave Richard III a deserved rehabilitation (history is written by the victors after all, and in this case Henry VII was victorious), but there is some definate romant cism in her view of him. And a definate bias against Henry. For more information on Richard III and his rehabilitation go toRichard III or More Richard III

Primary Location (i.e.,Egypt, Rome, Peru, etc.): England
Period in History, (i.e. The Roman Republic, The Rule of the Ptolemies, The Era of Emperors, etc.): Genesis of the War of the Roses
Brief description of the story (don't reveal the ending!!!): Story of John of Gaunt's long-time mistress and eventual third wife.
Why you liked this book: It gives a sympathetic view of two people whose relationship spawned the War of the Roses

Comments:
This is a great book if you like romanticized history. You come away as a huge supporter of Katherine and John - lovers who overcame great odds to be together. Although John would have made a great King, the opportunity was never his. He got the last laugh. It was his children and grandchildren who disrupted the line of succession causing the War of the Roses. Henry VII, usurper of the throne from Richard III and Grandfather to Elizabeth I, was himself the (legitimized-b stard) great, great-grandson of John of Gaunt and Katherine.

They travel around various parts of England in order to investigate discrepancies in the Domesday Book, William's system of accounting for land ownership and tax levies. Along the way, they encounter murder and mystery. At present six in the series.
Why you liked this book: Good characterization and quick plot. The history was very accurate. The Domesday Book is technically still a valid document in England today.

Why you liked this book: I love Roman history

Comments:
I highly reccomend this book if you enjoy Roman history. It is excellently researched and written. It may go under the topic of fiction but it is far from the author's imagination. One truly gets a sense that you are living and experiencing life in the Ancient Roman world. You will not be able to put this book down and it will leave you begging for more.
