Shirley's Heart

                      I knew a place where I could go,
           A shady nook where I could grow,
           and find a better part of me.

           Her placid smile and outstretched palm
           Encircled us within her calm;
           A place where we could come to rest,
           And cradle our souls upon her breast.

           Her heling touch, laced with magic,
           Made our lives, somehow, less tragic;
           Her gentle laughter filled this space,
           With strength and love and shining grace.

           The rich dark harvest of her soul,
           Our shameless need, our only goal;
           We turned our backs when need was sated
           Our fears calmed, our pain abated.

           We took her gifts and offered none,
           We took it all and now it's done;
           And left her heart bereft, unheeded,
           Caring little what she needed.

           Her shining star, faded and dim,
           A casualty of our reckless whim;
           Struggles now to shine again,
           Renewing Itself on a higher plane.

           Now see my palm held out with love,
           Together we will rise above;
           While you forgive, and I regret,
           Our bond in trust is finally me.
