Jess:
Job: Motorcycle Paramedic
Affiliation: City Wide
Race: Human
Jess is the same one as appears in A Year in Seattle. There is currently a story being written about how the two met but it goes something like this.
Scab was running away from some older boys that he had done mischief to (age about 15). As he came out of the end of an alley he had cut down he skids to a stop his pursuers forgotten. When they catch up and see what he has seen they turn tail and run, there are about 15 people in various states of being wounded scattered over the road. Somebody has obviously done a driveby and as there is no gaurentee that they hit their target they may come back.
Scab on the other hand is not at all offput by the screams of the wounded, nor the possibility of another pass by the shooters. Instead he starts wandering through the people surruptitiously looting the dead and watching the wounded out of curiosity.
After a short time a motorcycle does pull up but it is a paramedic. The medic gets off the bike and starts checking over the patients and putting them into triage. When she sees him messing with one of the dead/unconcious she calls out to him to stop moving the patients. She then conscripts him into helping her by applying pressure on one of the victims that is bleeding more heavily than the others. It is quite an exciting event, she even gives him plastic gloves and sleeves so he won’t get blood on himself.
Eventually ambulances start arriving and the wounded are taken off to A&E (accident and emergence, I forget what it’s called in the US). Jess talks to Scab for a little while after the ambulances have left (and the police have arrived) and then gets a call to another accident. She arranges to meet him and comes back the next day and buys him lunch.
Since then he has seen her a couple of times, once after he started learning magic. That time he actually helped by utilising his treat spell.
Scab and Jess get along amicably once he accepted that she didn’t like him moving her patients. He enjoys her company and admires her willingness to put herself in danger to help people. He thinks she is a bit naieve but feels good about the way she treats him like a normal person. Jess thinks that Scab is a good kid. She sees that he has come from a troubled background and makes allowances for it. She appreciates that he has helped her a couple of times in the past and believes that with a bit of luck and some sound (and gently applied) advice he can make something of his life.
