Meteor showers happen when the Earth passes through a swarm of space debris thought to come from comets. As the meteors collide with the Earth's atmosphere, they burn up and disintegrate through friction to produce a spectacular array of shooting stars. Although the sprays seem to radiate from a single point in space, this is an illusion of perspective because the meteors actually travel in parallel paths. The list here gives the names of the major showers with the dates they appear and the constellations from which they seem to radiate. If you are really into Meteor Showers check this Meteor Shower Site. |
