It has been theorized that humans are a recent visitor to Barsoom from Earth who simply took over in the distant past. With the lack of archeological evidence, the actual truth may remain unknown until long after the planet has died and digging for evidence is safer. If this theory is true, then the Green Men are the original inhabitants and true owners of the Red Planet.
Evolving from a hexapod predator on the open deserts, the Green Man is evolving to a bipedal life but the intermediary limbs which are used as both hands and feet but are neither indicate that this has not yet fully happened.
Currently the Green Race travels the southern deserts in Hoards that number from thousands to hundreds of thousands though like the Red Indians of the Southwest deserts of America, they prefer to live in smaller tribes that only occasionally gather together.
These are the known hoards. There may be more but the arid regions favored by the Green Men would keep their numbers very small.
THARK. This is the most well-known Green Hoard due to their alliance with John Carter. Based SE of Helium, they range over a vast tract that stretches almost to the Southern Icecap.
WARHOON. This Hoard is the hereditary enemies of the Tharks, probably because their territory parallels the Tharks a bit to the east thus contact is inevitable.
TORQUAS. This Hoard patrols the Torquas Basin.
THURID. Hereditary foes of the Torquas, it is believed that they roam SE of Torquas.
WARHOONS OF THE NORTH. Nothing is known of this small hoard but they are believed to roam the eastern Throxus Ocean bed.
HUNTDOON. A small Hoard that roams the desert between the Toonol Marsh and the Koal Forest.
