This is the South East quarter of Barsoom.
Keep in mind that if this were placed on a globe, the entire south line (90 degrees) would be a dot! The further south you go on a flat map, the more distorted it becomes. To understand this, look at a flat map of the Earth. Notice Greenland. See how to looks like a triangle?
Now look at a globe of the Earth. See how Greenland now looks like an oval?
That is the distortion caused by a flat map.
The further you go North or South on my maps, the greater the distortion. Feel free to convert them to a globe for a true relationship.
The South East quarter runs from 0 degrees to 180 degrees east, from 90 degrees south to the Equator and encompasses Torquas, Helium, Zodanga and the Green Hoards of Thark and Warhoon and Torquas.
Here you see the northern area of Torquas, the sw tip of the Forest of Lost Souls and the waterway that stretches from Exum to just south of Helium. Because this waterway bypasses Helium and stops just short of Thark, the implication is that Helium had not yet be colonized or was still a small city as this waterway was being built. The fact that it ends before reaching Thark implies that the green men had overrun that city as this waterway was being built.
This also shows the main channel of ancient water that ran from Torquas to Throxus, now dry.
There is a mistake here in that the Exum-Thark waterway ends here at 60 degrees east. It should continue to Exum as shown on map d6. This will be corrected in the next update.
Tou also see how the Torquas pushed east to form a river that skirted the Valley of Helium. This was once filed with a number of islands, now simple hills and plateaus.
To the east you see the wastern edge of the Valley of Helium and up north the southern part of the Valley of Lost Souls, kept free of intruders by the Invisible Men of Invak.
This shows most of the Valley of Helium, some of the Waterways and how a set of waterways follow the curve of the highlands from the Throxus to Zodanga.
With so many waterweays meeting at Zodanga, you can see why she was a power to consider in the past.
This shows the central area of Torquas and the actual crater in which Lothar was built. You also see the presumed location for the Thurid Hoard of Green men, the hereditary enemies of the Torquas Hoard.
To the north of this map you see the main river that leaves Torquas and heads east towards Helium. Once a massive waterway, it is now a dry basin with the occasional hillocks which were once islands.
To the northeast you see the beginnings of the Valley of Helium and a number of waterways that cross this area of Barsoom.
This shows the southern half of the Valley of Helium and the northern territory claimed by the Green Hoard of Thark.
This shows the northern area of the Warhoon Hoard and if you see how close they are to each other, you can understand their constant warfare. For two such warlike peoples to remain is such close proximity will lead to war.
Also the location for the Atmosphere Plant that provides air for the planet.
Here you see the southern edge of Torquas and mostly, the pumping station at the south pole that feeds water north. Because of the varying size of the southern icecap, this station struggles to send any water north.
Some think that this station is actually in Korus which they believe to be at the south pole. If so, the therns would be sending water north to feed the millions in the southern hemisphere.
Nothing here to see save a waterway that reaches towards Helium.
This shows a couple waterways, one to the east apparently unfinished. I suspect this is because of the expanding Tharken Hoard through whose territory the waterway passes.
The map shows the territory of Thark as rectangular but when converted to a globe, their lands appear to be a triangle.
There is nothing here. This is the eastern area beyond even the Warhoon territory and the western beginnings of the Great Desert. It is too cold and bare for even the hardiest of the Green Men to inhabit.
