| PHOTOGRAPHY Finnally after many complaints and also after common sense the MBTA has annulled the requirement for a photo pass. However the MBTA requires that the photogrphers have valid ID on them at all times. This photo policy was anulled at the start of July 2007 however the word may not have gotten to the all areas of the field yet. This story has been confirmed by Trains Magazine as well as other railfan sources. If MBTA personnel see you taking pictures, they may ask you why you are taking photographs and document your ID. This is just a security proceedure, just be nice and you will be on your way. As part of the photo policy annullment MBTA police may query photogrhers and document ID into a database. When photographing on the MBTA please follow these rules. 1. FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ALLOWED ON ANY MBTA LINE!!!!! 2. NO TRIPODS OF ANY SORT ARE ALLOWED ON ANY MBTA PLATFORM SAFETY / CRIME The MBTA operates one of the safest transit systems in the United States, and Boston is a friendly and safe city. However as in any large city you must always becarefull. Usually the biggest problem on the MBTA is pic pockets. Keep expensive cameras out of sight when not in use. I usually use a carry bag for mine. Carry wallets in front pockets and be alert in big crowds. As in any major city there are some parts of town better than others. Most MBTA lines are in good areas, however I recomend a little caution on the following: 1. The south end of the Orange Line. 2. The Mattapan area of the High Speed Trolley line from Ashmont. 3. The southern end of the "E" Arrborway extention on the Green Line. All and all the MBTA is very safe to ride, even at night. PERSONAL SAFETY Remember the MBTA is a very busy enviroment. Make sure you don't get lost in the viewfinder. 1. Trolleys are very quiet. There are places where you can cross tracks, please watch for oncoming trains. 2. Do not go anywhere behind the scenes unless an MBTA employee is giving you a tour or has invited you. 3. Do not stand right at the platform edge as a train is coming. (duh). 4. Remember to use common sense. 5. Remember Boston is a busy city be mindful of your belongings. |
