Cups! Cups! Cups!

or.. how I save money and help the earth

Boy, if this ain't a worthless page, there's no such thing as one... But anyway, the following are cups of mine. It's really quite something. I actually had more, but I threw a couple out before, and then a couple more when we moved. I still have one of each style, though. Why have so many cups? You could call me a collector, though I'm not really. I've just collected them accidentally, you could say. I can't always have a cup on me when I get a drink, so I end up with a new cup. I like to keep some in the car, too, so if I'm thirsty coming home from somewhere (like work.. you know, my car's air conditioning broke last year, so it gets kinda hot), then I'm good to go. That way, I can rest assured that I'm not adding to land fills and that I'm saving a few cents. Actually, more like 50 cents. In 10 days, that's 5 dollars saved, you know.

Recently, 7-Eleven changed their 64 ounce cup. Now it's similar to the Circle K cups, except it's a little bit shorter, hence the opening is a little wider. They have special caps for it because the regular caps are just a little too small. I like the idea of shorter cups, since a lot of places these cups just barely fit under the spigot, and it seems like it'd be a health hazard, potentially. But to use one, it means you have to remember to bring the special cap or you might get screwed. I guess everyone gets a little nostalgic for things once they end up disappearing (like the old Double Gulp cups with the traditional waxy-type paper construction), but at least this way they're reusable.
In addition to the new 7-Eleven cup I have here (as opposed to the slightly older version which had mostly Circle K cups), I also recently got myself an AM/PM 64 ounce cup, also reusable. Such fun, eh kids?

"Monsters of the Gridiron" - Circle K Ultimate Thirst Buster, vintage 1994
This cup has to be my sentimental favorite. It's the first one I got in this size, and luckily, it's kinda unique. Circle K and Coke were running some promotion with the NFL where they dressed up players in God-awful costumes, which you might be able to make out through the pictures here. The only one I care about is Jr. Seau, #55. His costume is one of the least embarrassing, called "Stealth." The cup has stood up to lots of abuse (and lots of diet coke) over the years, and it's still going strong. It's a little stained, which kinda makes me wonder about my own insides.. but oh well.
Here I have the cup from a couple different angles:

"Lizard Guy" - Circle K Ultimate Thirst Buster, vintage 1996
This is the standard Circle K cup. Just a cool lizard guy. I have two of these. I had two that were similar, but an ealier model. Those ones had two lizards in a dune buggy looking at a cup saying "Big.." "yeah.." I shoulda thrown out one of each, but oh, well, too late now, bub.
Again, I give you two angles of this cup so you can see what it looks like:

"Power Splash" - Unocal 76, vintage 1997
All the cups at Unocal have the same scheme, the only difference being the name (see the 7-Eleven main page's "Drink guide" to check them all out) and size. Only one angle for this cup, since it's got the same image repeated on both sides:

"Post-Modern Double Gulp (with cap)" - 7-Eleven, vintage Spring 1997
I mentioned it before up there, this is the new Double Gulp. It's slightly shorter than the others above, and slightly wider at the top. You couldn't tell, though, unless you put them right next to each other. One angle; it's the same on both sides:

"too much COOL stuff" - AM/PM, vintage Summer 1997
The copywright on the cup says 1997, so I'm assuming it's a new style. Either way, it's new to me. One angle, again:
