NOTE: While most of the following poem is mine own, I did lift the sentence "what a long strange trip it's been from the Dead. And the phrase "colorless green dreams sleep furiously" came from a classroom exercise a couple of years ago, so that's probably someone else's copyright too. Just so's ya know.

Wide Awake and Dreaming

LIKE LAST NIGHT AND THE NIGHT BEFORE
SHE CLOSES HER EYES AND SINKS TO THE FLOOR:

. . .and this is what he said to me.

"Follow beside me into a land where reality
is an illusion:
where kaleidoscopes twirl stationary
under your unseeing eyes,
and colorless green dreams sleep furiously.
sleep (he said).
Turn your silent laughter inside out,
stay in this world gone comfortably strange
where multiple colors blend as one."

SHE OPENS HER EYES AND RISES AGAIN:
WHAT A LONG, STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN.
