Legends of Honky Tonk

During the 1930s, a handful of pioneer singers helped shape the image of country music. Many were well known and very successful in their field. Others were sort of obsecure with only regional recoginition. During that era, a new style of music was carved out by such artist as Al Dexter, Rex Griffin, Ernest Tubb, Ted Daffan and Floyd Tillman. The term Honky Tonk was coined as a means of describing disorderly, working-class taverns and roadhouses. It originated in the Southwest, but quickly spread to the West Coast and Mid-Western States. In the 1960s and 1970s, George Jones, Charlie Walker and Lefty Frizzell honky tonk thriving. Most recently Mark Chesnutt, Joe Diffie and Tracy Byrd, are its greatest living exponent.

Legends of Honky Tonk, is packaged by Rhino Records - Los Angeles, California. The CD is a compilation of both obsecure and popular country singers. On the CD are such greats as, Al Dexter, Rex Griffin, Floyd Tillman, Ted Daffin and Ernest Tubb. Here, you can sample the artistry of sixteen different singers for a relative small investment.
